Jury Duty in St. Louis county

For the first time ever I got a summons to jury duty. All these years of school or work where a break would have been fun NOOOOO but now when I have a 4 month old infant who is exclusively breastfed. I would be happy to serve but just don't see how that would work right now. Does anyone have experience with it. Do they accept BF as a reason for deferment? Is there a good place to pump in the courts building?

Missouri isn't one of the (few) states that has an explicit law regarding BF being cause for deferment but... looks like being the primary care-giver of a child under the age of 10 will do it.

I got called for St. Louis City when I was pg. I sat through the entire day, then at the end the judge called my name and excused me. I got the impression that I could have gone up first thing in the morning and would have been excused. In fact, the girl in the parking garage was shocked that I was leaving so late in the day, so I guess most incredibly pregnant women ask to be excused. I didn't know! It was interesting to see how the process worked though.

I would think that being the caregiver for an EBF 4 month old would be a way to get excused.

If you scroll down on that first link, Missouri allows for women to be exempt from jury duty.

Yes, I know what you mean about wanting to be called when you had a boring job!!!

I was called a few years ago (after being a registered voter for over 15 years), and my children were 4 and 2. The younger was still nursing, but I didn't want to go into it. THere was a line for "extenuating circumstance" or something like that and I filled out the form saying that I was the primary caregiver for my two children and had no family in town to help out (true). They returned my form, very quickly, and said it was fine.

A friend of mine had her babysitter excused...not sure how that worked, but it did.

St. Louis city jury duty

I got a jury duty summons recently for the city. I went down in person to the civil court building to present a letter asking to be excused because I am exclusively nursing my five month old baby. I was told it would be postponed for two years. I was pleased that it was very straightforward--I had my baby with me and the employee I spoke to barely looked at my letter.
