breastflow bottles..

anyone have any opinions on these? the reviews were superb, and i already bought them, so it's too late- but i was just wondering what you other pumping mamas thought. we've been having issues with nipple/bottle preference/confusion but i'd only tried the dr. brown's prior to this.

these are the ONLY bottles DD would take (and we tried them all). I wish she didn't prefer them. She is 7 months now, and we've been using them since I went back to work at 12 weeks. We recently tried to get her to use glass bottles, with a "normal" nipple, but it was a no-g0. I wanted to use glass, and I think the double nipples are a pin to wash, but they really seem to be the only thing that comes close to the slow flow of breastfeeding and the wide latch. Every baby is different though, so you could end up with a cabinet full of barely used bottle varieties, like me.

I tried a Breastflow bottle last night on Brenan (9 weeks old) and he *hated* it. He acted like the nipple was a huge bother to him, like he had no idea what to do with it. Then he started chewing it with his little gums, just chomp-chomp-chomp which made the flow faster and choked him and after he recovered from that he just gave me the most disgusted look, lol. He does okay on (not great, still flows quicker than it should for him) Playtex NaturaLatch nipples, so I'm thinking we might just stay with those.

Another thing I noticed about the Breastflow is that a little milk gets left behind, yes you can squeeze it out of the nipple part back into the bottle part, but some ends up getting trapped there again and I just cannot stomach letting ANY of my milk go to waste.

I wish someone would make super-slow-flow nipples shaped like the NaturaLatch dangit!

We use the Breastflow bottles too and that is all DD has ever used. She has never had a problem with them and easily goes back and forth between them and the breast.

My DD has used only Breastflow. She has no problems switching back and fourth from the breast. Probably around age 5 months, we switched to the medium flow nipple because the slow flow ones were too frustrating for her. With these bottles, I found that I really have to shove it into DD's mouth and keep it there...not like uncomfortable in any way, but if you gently rest them on their mouth, they don't work as well.

I think dd needs to work a little harder to get the milk with the Breastflow than with other bottles, and I like that. I used them through her nursing strike last week and she had no trouble switching back once she decided to.

I like them alot. You can see DS latch on to them, the way he would to the breast. And feeding him takes a lot longer then a regular bottle (a good thing).

PP's are right though, milk does get trapped between the two nipples.

My LO has no issues with the breastflow bottles...but that is all he has ever had. He is EBF, but gets a bottle of BM once every few days...and he has no issues switching back and forth or anything like that. No nipple confusion here! Those bottles are what our IBCLC recommended to use.

But again, we have no comparison....

I haven't used them myself, the IBCLC I use to work with was very much against them. But I think it comes to personal preferance in some cases. She recommends the Playtex Nursers. I would think that because the baby has to "work" at the feeding it would be beneficial to the baby to avoid issues. Good luck with whatever you try I am interested in the Adiri myself

I had to start supplementing at 1 week old due to low suppl and DD got awful nipple confusion from Born Free bottles. Her latch got really messed up. These bottles fixxed her latch and she had no problem going back and forth between breast and bottle numerous times each day. These really saved our nursing relationship! I do agree though that the milk getting trapped is ultra frustrating!! I also hate how the markings on the bottle fade away very quickly. We always had to use another bottle to measure out how much we were pouring in.

My daughter hates them, but she pretty much hates all bottles, so I don't blame these particularly. I was hoping that the breastflow would be something she would take, but it's a fight to the bitter end.

I had one son who loved them until he was introduced to the Adiri Natural Nurser (a thousand times simpler, IMHO). All others preferred the Adiri too.

We've never had one leak yet.
ETA: And I've been using them for 4 years.
