One week ago (sunday), my 4yo complained that his ear hurt with no other symptoms. So, that evening, I put garlic drops in his ear that hurt and he went to bed. He never complained about the ear again. For the next 2-3 days he had some typical cold symptoms and just didn't feel well. Slight fever, chills, runny nose, etc. But seemed to get better each day. By wednesday I caught it, so if it was the same as me, it was pretty miserable. My illness included, sore throat, ears, congestion, fever, chills.
So, by Thursday, he seemed really good. That was the day I was at my sickest, and he really took care of himself and his brother all day by getting snacks and playing, he was doing great. He would still need to have a rest after playing real hard, but that was rare. He was like that Thurs and Fri. Then yesterday, he seemed fine. He went out to play outside. It was cool, but warm for the season. He was properly dressed and played for about an hour and seemed fine. All this time, he has been eating lightly, but enough that I'm fine with, and drinking lots of orange juice all week.
Today, Sunday, he is a mess. He has a fever, he says his leg aches, his nose is running, and he has a prickly rash at the bottom of both legs, from his ankles and about 4" upwards. He is laying on the couch, just pathetic.
So, I'm worrying, because if it's the same illness, it's not getting better. And I would probably take him to the doctor. But if it's a new illness, then I would just ride it out. The rash is kind of bugging me too, because we've never dealt with anything that had a rash before.
Any ideas?
ETA: It seems like this might be a new problem. The rash on his ankles/legs is slightly itchy and his left foot/ankle is what is really hurting him and is swollen. I can't even touch it without him freaking. He's asleep now. I am at a loss.
