Hey Folks!
I need some mystery-solvers to help me with this stumper...
My 6-month-old son has a strange rash all around his entire diaper area. It is much more wide-spread than the occasional teething rash he's had around his anus on and off the past few months.
Some info:
- We use g-diapers and have for four months.
- He has started eating some solids, but in very small amounts and I'm only introducing one new food every 7-10 days. The most recent food was golden delicious apples.
- Zinc diaper ointments (Burt's Bees, Avalon Organics) and also the MotherLove diaper and thrush ointment are not clearing it up
- We tried putting him in Earth's Best disposable diapers, just to see if that would help...it didn't
- I did recently start giving him Blue Vervain and another herbal tincture called Stress-J to help him with teething (and it has worked well). The Stress-J has the following ingredients: passion flower, marshmallow, feverfew, chamomile, hops, fennel seed, and vegetable glycerin. The Blue Vervain is just that and vegetable glycerin. (Maybe there's some allergy going on?)
My son is incredibly healthy and this is his first rash anywhere near this extensive. Some traits of the rash:
- red spots, sometimes raised and bumpy, sometimes flat
- a few dry patches amid the red splotches
- the creases in his many fat rolls around his bum and the tops of his thighs do not have rashes in them
- it will sometimes look a little better, but is not going away
- he's had the rash for about 8 days
- it doesn't seem to be bothering him at all - and he is a sensitive fella
Could this be caused by something in his urine or poop? If I've changed something in my diet, could it be getting to him through breastmilk and causing a slight allergic reaction? Could it be the herbal remedies for teething? Could it be thrush (I don't eat wheat, but I'm sure there is still yeast in my diet in some small amounts)?
Has anyone had any sort of mystery rashes like this that you can't get to go away and you don't know what's causing it?
Would appreciate any help you can offer. Thank you so much!
