Knitting socks, a few questions

Okay, so I am knitting my daughter a pair of socks. I am using lorna's laces shepherd sock multi and size US1 needles. For some reason, the knit of the socks feels loose. I know that I knit rather loose, but for some reason I put the socks on her and they don't seem to hold their shape up. Should I knit the ribbing on the cuffs ( I did the cuffs and the tops all in 2x2 rib) and then switch to the 1's afterwards?

You would think, for knitting for 25 years I would know this, but I never knit socks for this very reason. I think I just need to suck it up and buy size 0 DPN's.

Thanks!

Can't answer your questions, but isn't that the greatest yarn? I did a poncho from it several years ago and it wears beautifully!

My friend is a very experienced knitter told a girl at group the other day that she should move down a size cause the cuff was loose.

I haven't knit socks before but that was her recommendation.

Yup, I would move down a needle size, just like you would if you were knitting above gauge on any other pattern.
