Movie recommendations for my little girl?

I would love some non-disney, non-princess, non-violent, movies to show my daughter. We also want to avoid overly dramatic or overly commercialized shows (i.e. Dora, Thomas, or Curious George).

Dd is two, and my husband and I have decided that tv/movies in moderation are okay. But... we find ourselves editing pretty excessively. Even shows like The Muppet Movie need quite a bit of skipping through. Our daughter has a pretty developed ability to follow a story line (she listens to us read children's chapter books for 30 minutes at a time) so we would like to find some shows that she can watch without missing big sections.

We love "My Neighbor Totoro" and "Kiki's Delivery Service" (even though they are distributed by Disney). We also like the "Planet Earth" BBC series.

We would love some movies about nature, fairy tales (i.e. Three Bears, Three Little Pigs, Little Red Riding Hood), or any other imaginative productions.

How about Microcosmos? (A nature film with close-up photography of insects and other small creatures.) Both my kids like it.

Wee Sing in Sillyville was my DS's fave at that age.

Little Bear is a good bet. Kipper, too.

My kids both enjoyed Lady and the Tramp and the Aristocats by 3. They are both Disney, but old, so you wouldn't see merchandise in Target or anything. Both of those do definitely have "bad guys," though.

I second Little Bear. Absolutely no conflict.

My daughter loves Peep and the Big Wide World, which is a WGBH show.

2 is very little!

I agree about Little Bear, which was a favorite of ours at that age. Some of the older animated Madelines are nice, too. I think the later ones are Disney, but the older ones are Cinar.

Totoro is our fav here too. Madeline (non animated ) is wonderful. The Avatar tv series that you can rent through netflix is wonderful. There is fighting but the main character always promotes peace and strong peace message in it. Same with the Iron Giant.

I agree with Little Bear. You might also like Franklin.

David the Gnome might be an option, but there may be too much peril or violence. I can't remember as it's been a long time since I've seen any of the episodes.

Fraggle Rock might be a good choice.

Kipper. And more Kipper. Can't recommend it highly enough. My kids all adored him. Laughing out loud, and there's no meanness, no nastiness; all sweetness.

(I love Kipper, too. In case you couldn't tell.)
