Triathlete Mamas

Thread Starter
Hi all,
Any triathlete mamas out there? I was an avid (read "obsessive") triathlete until I became prego in November 2008. I took last season off and had ds last August. I am SO enjoying the perspective that having a child has given me and I am not feeling THAT ansy to get back in the saddle. DS is 5months old and I'm trying to tap into that motivation that I had before. I'm starting to run a bit, I got back on the pool last week, but haven't even set my sights on any races for the 2010 season. Any one else getting back into training after having a baby? Or anyone with young kids who has found their stride again? What's your training schedule?

Hi and congratulations on your new baby! There are a few other triathletes on the Dingo thread here in the Fitness section. I've been doing triathlons since 2007 when my youngest was still quite young. I don't know what distance you compete in, but I've stuck with Sprint and Oly since training for anything longer requires more time than I can devote with three children. I'm recovering from injury right now , so my training is a bit haphazard. I'm basically rebuilding my base from the injury so bike trainer 3-4x a week, 3-4 runs a week and 2 swims a week (should be doing more there...). I am still waiting for my injury to fully heal before I plunk down any money for races, but I hope to do at least 3 local sprints and one Olympic distance this summer .

Come, join us on the Dingo thread! Tjsmama, who posts there, does a great job of fitting in training with a child. She'll tell you to get a Chariot so you can run and ride with your LO .

triathlete wanna be

Hi! I can't call myself a triathlete yet but I am training now for my first sprint in March!!

I am training with 3 other women and we have hired a coach. We are all in good shape and have been working out 6 days a week for a long time but now we are specifically training for the race. I have been doing a very high intensity spin class 2-3 days a week, running 3-4 days, lifting 2-3 and then some yoga for stretching. We have added the pool with the coach this week and will do that at least 2 days a week. I also need to get on the real bike outdoors this week and continue to work on that.

We are really excited. Until recently I was overweight and now I am in super shape and this will be a great new goal to attain. I think it will also be great for our kids to see, we have 10 between us!

You know me so well, jaygee!

Seconding the invitation to come on over to the dingo thread! We have a few triathletes, and more than a few aspiring triathletes. And just a ton of love, support, advice, and other awesomeness!

I started doing tris in 2007, my DS had just turned 1 when I did my first. I've done a bunch of sprints, a few olympics, and did my first half-ironman in September. I just ran my first marathon last weekend, and I'm signed up for another half-ironman this summer. Since I'm a single mom, I do probably 75% of my training with DS in the Chariot. I've run up to 12 miles with him, and pulled him on the bike for up to 30 miles. He's a great training partner! I have an awesome group of mama friends who gets together at least once or twice a week to run or ride with the kiddos, and I'm lucky enough to have tons of friends who love to do all this crazy stuff and are usually up for meeting up for a long run or ride when DS is with his dad.

My typical training schedule is to go to the Y for spin class or a swim once or twice a week, run three days, and ride at least twice. I do a group track workout once a week, and in the summer we meet at 6am, which is great for getting a run in and then still being able to go out for a bike ride later. That's the closest to a brick I usually do, unfortunately, but I'm not good enough to be competitive, other than with myself!

Hi! My story is almost exactly like yours OP! The only diff is I have a 9 month old! I am setting my sights on 2 sprints this summer. I'm indoor biking right now but that's it so far.

I am training for my first sprint tri for this summer! I ran in my first full marathon last October, so I'm definitely coming from the running end of things. I am also going to be marathon training along with the tri training, so it's going to be a bit hectic! I have 3 kids myself, but my youngest is 4 (will be 4.5 at the time of the race). I am planning on running 4 days a week, with a day devoted to swim and another to bike. I will also work some brick work in on at least one day a week. Good luck, and definitely come over to the Dingo thread!
