How is she still functioning?

My 14 month old has consistently been getting 2-3 hours less of sleep per day than normal in the last 5 days.

She usually sleeps 11-12 hours at night and 2-3 hours at her nap, but she's slept 8-10 hours per night and 1 1/2 - 2 hours at nap time.

The crazy thing is she's had a cold - I know that can make it harder to sleep, but don't babies usually sleep more when they're sick?

And she's functioning completely normally. When she's awake, she's happy and energenic. I have no idea how she can still function on so little sleep.

Has this ever happened to your LO? Do you think she's transitioning to needing less sleep? That doesn't seem like enough sleep for a 14 month old.

My DD1 is the same way. Always has been. You know how the first coupls of weeks "they sleep all day long and wake only long enough to look around, poop and get fed?" DD1 never had that period. She was awake and alert from the moment of birth, and hates to sleep. But she's thriving, physically and mentally.

I wonder if those sleep charts are anything like the growth charts - you know the growth chart at the ped is based on formula-fed babies, so BF babies often are on the smaller end of the scale. I wonder if some kids are just always on the shorter end of the sleep scale.

People keep telling me "Wait till she's a teenager and you won't be able to wake her up!" Little consolation there, folks!
