But I'm not losing any at all. In fact, I have a ferocious appetite that I'm desperately looking for ways to control. My weight has been at a stand still for three weeks and inching towards GAINING!! ARRRGHHHH!!!

i gained 11 lbs while pg (horrid acid reflux), lost 15 lbs when i delivered and have GAINED 25lbs (!!!!) since i gave birth! i get hungry when bf and my body goes into horde mode. i always tell mamas that bf COULD help them lose weight but it's not a guarantee and you don't want to diet while bf. i am tall and average build or else i'd look like a hippo!!!

I did t lose any weight for the 1st 6 months. Try to be patient.

What kind of food are you craving?...Are you over eating?
I don't loose much in the first 6 months pp. I don't tried either.
The early month are crucial to keep and stablish a good supply of breastmilk.
Right now 18 months pp, I already down all the pregnancy weight plus 3 lbs. Now our family diet is lots of healthy fats, veggies and proteins.
We don't eat processed foods and I cut it little by little and replaced for fats (coconut oil & milk, olive oil, animal fats, etc)

Best!

Not everyone loses weight while breastfeeding. For some, the weight stays on. I know that I really can't, no matter how much I try, lose weight until I wean. It's really a PITA...all I can do is eat healthy, exercise, and know that once I wean at 3 or so years old, the weight will come off.

You had a baby December 15? So she's 5 weeks old? Be patient. Give it a year. Listen to your body. It is telling you what it needs to sustain this life!

i EBF, and lost all the weight, but i definitely couldnt tell in the beginning. it seems to go soooo slow, and then all of a sudden, around 5 months, i only had a few pounds to go! i *still* have an insanely huge appetite, but i think eating in the day, not night, helped me. almost ten months later, i am back to my pre-husband weight LOL

It's a frustrating myth that breastfeeding is helpful for weightloss 'cause for some of us it just is not at all. Ds is 15 months & I haven't lost a pound of baby weight yet - none.

I agree with pp though 5 weeks is still SOOOO soon. Your body isn't even really into a rhythm with the breastfeeding yet.

I don't think it's a myth. But as is with all things, it does not apply to every person.

I wonder if your base nutrition levels and/or pre-pregnancy weight levels have something to do with it.

Pre-preg I was about 120lbs. I gained 40lbs during pregnancy and lost all of it and more the first 2 months after birth. But since then, I have been gaining weight. It tapered off when DD was about 7 months and now I am 140lbs at 5 4". So a bit above the average span?

I never thought I would choose to give milk to my baby so I could lose weight though...

I didn't gain much in the way of "real" weight when I was pregnant either time -- I was at my pre-pregnancy weight a few weeks after giving birth, because everything I gained was baby, fluid, etc.

I did, however, gain weight while nursing, both times.

Some women do lose weight while nursing; I know several women who have a terrible time keeping their weight up.

I think it's probably genetic.

i didnt lose much while nursing my dd, but since having my ds and tandem nursing i eat and eat and i am still losing weight. kinda crazy

With my DS, the weight didn't start to come off until he was 9 months old. Before that, if I tried to diet or anything, I felt hungry and faint ALL the time. But when we hit that 9 month mark it all fell off within about 6 weeks.

^^Agree! I didn't lose any weight the first 6 months, but am almost back to pre pregnancy now, at 10 months pp. Eat healthy, try to get a bit of exercise (but not just yet! Give yourself a few weeks to recover from the birth), and just be patient. Nine months on, nine months off is a good guideline.

I'm right there with you! My babe was born 12/15 too I've been so hungry! I cannot wait for warmer weather so we can get outside for longer lengths of time for fresh air and exercise. This is very frustrating!
