I hope it is alright if I start a new canning thread!! If not, I hope it isn't too much trouble to delete!

Ok, so the only 'canning' I have ever done was making freezer jam. However, this year, I plan on having a much larger vegetable patch. We are slowly working on being self-reliant for all of our fruits/vegetables. So, to that end, I realize I need to learn to can.

What kind of pressure canner do you prefer? (This was also a question at the end of canning 2009 by another user.)

What book would be the best for my first purchase?

Subbing! I've never done any canning before but plan to this year. I finally have a yard and will finally have a garden. Hopefully I will have an abundance of various product and will have lots to can!

also wanting to do a little more canning...right now I can dilly beans, dilly carrots, and jams but would love to get into sauces, salsas, chutneys, etc...
