Tax question?

Thread Starter
What is the income limit for having to report as self-employed?

I made a grand total of $800 last year before expenses as an independent contractor, and was told that as long as it was under $1000 you don't have to file as self-employed.

Is that true?

The best way to find out for sure would probably be to call the IRS hotline. They have been super helpful in figuring out tax details like that for me in the past.

Telephone Assistance for Individuals:
Toll-Free, 1-800-829-1040
Hours of Operation: Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. your local time (Alaska & Hawaii follow Pacific Time).

You must report earnings over $400. Here is the IRS reference: http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/...8846,00.html#4

No, it's if you made $400 or more. You'll have to file.
