Does anyone have some recommendations for cloth training pants?

My 2 1/2 year old is starting to use the potty more. We were doing CD for a long time, until he ended up in the hospital, then it got put off to the side for a while. Now that his diabetes is a bit more of our routine, I'd like to get back to the cloth. He's been using Pull ups, so I'd like to use some sort of training pants instead of regular CDs.

I saw the Imse Vimse ones, which look great, but a lot of the reviews seem to suggest the sizing is weird.

I'd really like to find something which isn't bulky, but won't be too tight. He also has an insulin pump on his bum, so they can't be tight to take off and on, or he'll rip it off.

The Imse Vimse actually make really great training pants because they are somewhat waterproof. They won't hold up to a heavy wetter overnight but they will totally protect against small accidents.

As far as the weird sizing, most retailers will list the Imse trainers by weight and just use that as your guide so you don't get confused.

I also use Gerbers and double them up. The double absorbency works really well and they are still amazingly easy to take on/off. (We EC at night so easy off/on is critical).

I also use regular trainers with fleece pants instead of pajamas and that system seems to be the best for comfort, ease of use and protection.

These Trainers are pull up style with a waterproof inner layer and bamboo velour inside. They fit like underwear and are dependable for accidents.

The Imse Vimse training pants are really fairly wonderful. I am huge fan of all of their products but in particular the training pants. However, they are best for a child who has started to learn and might have only small accidents. I don't know that I would put a child who was wetting the bed in an Imse Vimse training pant.

If you have a child who has not yet mastered overnights or has fairly large accidents, I would go with the Happy Heiny training pant. They allow you to adjust the absorbency to fit your needs at the time (less for day, more for night). Happy Heinys run very large so do NOT size up.

We LOVE Little Beetles learners because they come off like a diapers and they are super soft (as long as you dry them). Ds can wear them at night and they can take a decent wetting.we have been getting ours here: http://www.crunchygranolababy.net/

Timely Thread

I JUST ordered a SmartPocket training pant and the doublers this morning and wandered over here to see what the MDC crowd says about training pants. This is our first foray into cloth and we only need something at night for our 4.5 year old boy. The woman that I spoke to at Pottytrainingsolutions was very,very helpful. I'll try to post my experience when this item comes in and we get a few uses. Thanks for starting the thread, I'll be reading with interest.

I really like the Imse Vimse trainers. DS still fit into the 15-24 month size at 28 months and well over 30lbs, but they were snug. The bigger size fit better but was more bulky.

They are quite absorbent but not completely waterproof. Probably won't stand up well to repeated night wetting, but with one pee we've just had damp sheets. During they day they'll keep the floor dry, but pants will get damp and probably need to be changed.

Little Beetle never fit DS right so I can't really comment on them, but I loved the idea of them since they do have the side-snaps which is great for poop accidents.

I got one Apple Dumpling Gear SS waterproof trainer which I LOVED. It was just the right absorbency for daytime, snapped off like a diaper for a poop. Wonderful.

Most side-snapping cloth diapers, especially if they have elastic in the front and back are easy to pull up and down like underwear. We used ME Sandy's for a long time with DS for this reason, but I've tried a few others that worked well. Oh and Kissaluvs are pretty stretchy and worked well as trainers too.

We used Little Beetle Learners for that stage after potty training when kids are still prone ot accidents when napping or away from home. Very absorbant. Loved the colors, loved the pull-on snap-off, liekd that they were thinner than diapers and just a bit thicker than underwear, without a waterproof layer but still could hold enough liquid to keep their pants from getting wet.

I like the Under the Nile training pants...

We have used cloth dipes for all 4 of our kids. I just bought a stash of about 18 newborn to 6 or 8 month-age dipes for our new one on the way. And I have about 4 that I'll use..... but with our last we EC'ed at the same time as using the diapers, and we'll try that again this time - BUT - if we need to - I think I'm going to try the little Beetle's - they look very convenient!!

My experience with Smart Pockets

It leaks. I have a heavy wetting 4.5 year old boy. He's totally potty trained during the day (has been for almost two years) but wets a lot at night. I purchased a hemp doubler that I folded in half and, while that catches a lot, we still get a wet bed every morning that we've used it. We even wake him up to pee once or twice/night.

So, having said that, I have never used cloth diapers or pull up before. This could all be user error. I also have one Nikky's Overnight Training Pant on the way to try. If these don't work, I might try the Motherease but I don't want to keep spending $ on this stuff if they aren't going to work and he has to be in a disposable by the end of the night anyway. Right now I feel like I'm wasting a lot of water by washing sheets and wasting trash by using disposables.

I'll try to come back with my Nikky's experience.........

I like Swaddlebees Minkee trainer. The elastic waist has a lot of "boing" to it. They're very waterpoof.

They are good for overnight too. I haven't found anything that's 100% for a big overnight pee, but a Swaddlebees Minkee trainer with a fleece or wool cover would be perfect.

I like the Bummis trainer too. Those trainers and the Imse Vmse will catch a small accident but not a big accident

I've wanted to try the Apple Dumpling Gear trainer. I've read on this board that they're good for overnight.

Nikki Overnight Pants

They Work! We've used it for three nights in a row, two nights without any doubler for added protection and not a single leak. The only small issue that I have is that they take a really long time to dry, but I'm willing to live with that. I have three more on the way for a total of 4. I recommend them and babybunz.com has them in stock for anyone who is looking (I'm not affiliated with babybunz in any way).

The imse vimse trainers are nice - I haven't found the sizing to be weird myself. If you have need for something more waterproof though, they're not the best.

Having used starbunz and happy heiney trainers too - the happy heiney's would probably be a little less constrictive for your needs and that'd be what I'd recommend of more waterproof trainers. They aren't exactly 'very trim' but they can be a little pouffy though less bulky than others.
