Getting certified

It has taken me 20 years to find my niche and decide what I want to do with my life. I've decided to become a personal trainer. I'm thinking ACE is the certification to go for. There are online certs available, too. I think I will work for someone, before I try to start a business. I think. If any of you have some advice to offer, I really would appreciate your imput. I wasn't sure where to post this, please feel free to put it where ever it should be.

Congrats on heading out on a new career.

If you want my advice...ACE is the least respected certification. It will 'get you in the door', so to speak, but the information pales in comparison to other certifications. It is the easiest and cheapest, and that is why it is the most popular. That said, it would definitely get you a job, if that is your goal. But if you are more interested in the information and learning, I wouldn't go for ACE.

If you would like a more respected certification, NASM or ISSA or ACSM would be better choices. And I would NOT do an online certification. Part of a fitness cert is to get experience in training people. An online certification wouldn't give you that much of an opportunity and (personally) I wouldn't work with an online certified trainer.
