Help with sponsoring a child

We are wanting to sponsor some children in our own children's names. However, as I am researching the options (I've pretty much decided on a charity to go through, it's really just which country), I feel overwhelmed by the need! If you have sponsored a child through a charity, how did you decide which country to go with? It just seems that there is SO much need in our world, so much poverty, so much... so many different countries with huge issues. Haiti, Guatemala, Zambia, Liberia, Indonesia... the list goes on. My heart breaks for ALL those places, how in the world can we choose just a couple of children in one (or two or three) countries to help?

I showed DD1 the pics of the girls about her age on the computer and let her pick one.

Yes it is heart-breaking. That is why we eventually ended up with 4 kids. It worked really well to search the site (we used Compassion) with the age of the kids we wanted (we tried to pick similar ages) then I had my oldest pick which girl she wanted. She actually had a pretty close bond with her, on our side, until she moved and left the program.
