where in Norfolk to live?

My dh is in the Navy and we are moving to Norfolk in a few weeks. We want to rent a house and we don't know much about the area. Ideas?

I'm an LLL leader and just finished up training to be a childbirth educator so any info on the crunchy community there would be great!

Good places to shop for organic food?

Ghent is a REALLY cute area- walkable, safe, cute homes, etc.

I live in Virginia Beach just on the border of Norfolk, and I noticed one or two cute houses for rent in our neighborhood, which is called Arrowhead. It's very family friendly, affordable, has one of the best elementary schools, and has lots of military families.

Thanks, we will check out Arrowhead. It isn't too far from NAS Norfolk. We are headed up there next week! We're thinking either the Larchmont area or the VA Beach side of the Norfolk/VB border. Hoping to avoid a long commute for dh but I still have to feel safe there alone with the kids for 6 mos at a time.

I lived in the Ghent are while attending grad school. I really liked the area. I was close to nice restaurants, stores, and The Naro movie theatre (great place).

My in-laws live a few minutes from us in River Forest Shores in Norfolk. That's a great neighborhood too. My father-in-law works at NAS Norfolk, so I don't think the commute is too bad!
