BumGenius leaking

DD is 13 months, and around the time she was 11 months, she started peeing through her diapers at lot. This was both during naps (when she wears prefolds in Thirsties covers) and at night (when she wears BumGenius with two inserts plus a doubler). We got the nap leaks stopped by changing the way we folded the diapers -- seemed to be a fit thing. But the leaking at night in the BumGenius has continued intermittently, so we've had to switch to disposables at night.

At first, we thought the BGOS were leaking because of fit too, but then it seemed to just be about absorbency, because all the inserts were totally soaked in the morning. So we started trying to put four inserts in there (usually two BG inserts, one doubler, and one prefold), which does hold all the pee, but it's so bulky that it leaves big gaps around her legs, so we once again get leaks.

Any one have any advice on increasing the absorbency of BGOS without all the bulk? She's in her night-time diaper usually for 12 hours.

I have no advice because I am right there with you. Same exact problem with the BG at night, so I'm using disposables for now. I do remember that when DS1 was around this age I had to use a doubler in his disposable diapers at night because he was wetting so much. The similarities between both of my boys at this age are wetting heavily, nursing frequently all night, and not sleeping through the night yet. DS1 started sleeping in longer stretches at around 16ish months, and not nursing so often made his overnight diapers less full. I keep telling myself that DS2 will get there, maybe around the same age, and we can go back to cloth then. If I could find a cloth solution I would love to give up the disposables! As it is, I have to change him immediately when we wake up or I have to change him, me and the sheets from leaking through the disposable. I'm even using overnight type diapers.

The only thing I could suggest would be a formed insert like the wonderfulls inserts. They absorb as much as the CBos inserts, but since they are wider in the front and back, they are less bulky between the legs, and slightly thinner.

Might be worth a shot?

I hadn't heard of those. Yes, I think something like that might help, because I think a lot of times the leaks happen because there's not enough stuff filling up the wide area at the front. I'll check those out. Thanks!

We use 1 Loopy Do + the insert that came with the BumGenius. The Loopy Do's are amazing (Super Dos are even more amazing) and we've never had a leak.

We *did* have leaks with the BG AIOs so we ended up using covers on top of them...that did the trick.

Good luck!

hemp instead of the microfiber insert?

I have leaking problems with our BG, I have a couple tiny tush pockets and a dry bees and we haven't had the leaking problems from them. though I think it was a mater of fitting better around my LO's egs

We had BG leak issues at night, DS tended to pee strongly and not roll much, so there was compression in one spot. We just layered a Bummis cover over the double stuffed BG. It still leaked out to the cover but the Bummis never leaked.

I had the same problem with my daughter and I gave up on the bumgenius. I switched to a large prefold with a small prefold doubler and splurged on Aristocrats wool covers -- and it still works now that she's 2.

I used BG3.0 one size for almost a year with no problems, but my 17m/o recently started leaking at night, too. I ordered a couple of Flip diapers with the stay-dry inserts and have loved them. A Flip cover with 2 stay-dry inserts (or one stay-dry insert and one regular BG insert - put the stay-dry on top since the microfiber isn't supposed to touch skin) is my new nighttime gold standard. Even when the inserts are completely saturated, no leaks!
