I feel like its slipping away:(

I am 24 weeks today and had my 2nd ultrasound. Baby is in breech as of now. I know i have plenty of time but I feel my VBAC slowly falling from my hands. Im worried they are going to tell me no way on the VBAC. When should I start to worry? Is there anything I can do now to try and turn her? Im just a mess but wont tell anyone. I am keeping the mind set though that Im having a VBAC because I dont have time for a C-section-lol

Otherwise Daelyn is doing great. Shes a Drama Queen already but Im totally in love as is her daddy and big brother! She is measuring 24wks 3 days and is in the 65%. I was told she will probably be a good size baby. DS was 9lbs 6.6oz.

My first c/s was for breech. He was breech that I knew about from 6 months on, I could feel his head and he never moved. My second baby was breech also at the 20 week ultrasound. I tried everything to turn her, but finally had to have a ECV at the hospital at 36.5 weeks. It worked and I went into labor on my own about 3 weeks later and had a very easy drug-free VBAC. Even though, my baby didn't turn using the natural methods, I do think they helped make the ECV easier and helped her birthing. Some things to try:

*chiropractic care: general chiro care to help your alignment and Webster technique to relax and balance your ligaments.

*visualization/hypnosis. Hypnobabies has a specific hypnosis track. I found the Hypnobabies program very helpful. I did use the breech track, but I think because she was my second breech, the breech track didn't help me as much. Visualization did, though. I put up pictures of vertex babies with affirmations

*Spinning Babies exercises: http://www.spinningbabies.com

*moxibustion

*accupuncture

Don't give up. If baby doesn't turn, you can have an ECV. Make sure you have someone who is experienced and confident to do it. If they are negative about it, find someone else. Mine was very easy and quick. I was in the hospital for 4 hours for check in, monitoring before, the procedure and monitoring after. The procedure took about a minute. I got sweaty and faint from being on my back, but used my Hypnobabies cues and did not feel any pain.

You may be able to find someone attend a breech birth, but breech VBAC would be very difficult to find someone, but it is worth looking into.

If you end up needing a c-section, you could wait to go into labor on your own so the baby gets the benefits of labor. Also, sometimes babies turn in labor.

There really is absolutely NO reason for concern about baby's position at this point. Babies can move all around at this point in pregnancy! And if you get to 34 wks or so, and your baby is breech then, there are all kinds of things you can do to encourage baby to turn. I know a mama whose baby was breech from about 32 to 37wks, and then turned through use of accupuncture, positional exercises, chiropractic and relaxation/visualization. If it hadn't worked by then, she would have also tried certain homeopathic remedies and even External Version (or ECV--external cephalic version, where a care provider manipulates baby from the outside, hands on the belly, to help baby turn).

No worries yet, really!

I agree, no reason to worry yet. My baby flipped from breech to transverse to vertex frequently between 18-25 weeks. At 27 weeks, I'm fairly certain it's head down, but today I thought she moved into a wonky position again so I'm not sure. Anyway, most babies settle into vertex between 30-32 weeks. If you're still breech at that point I would start looking into some of the other methods mentioned. I have heard very good things about the webster technique if you can find a local chiropractor who's certified.

Make sure you drink plenty of water, it can help with amniotic fluid levels and the more fluid, the more room for baby to move.

Yes, please stop worrying about breech presentation now. Study spinningbabies for good posture to encourage vertex presentation.

Just a note, you're going to need a lot more confidence in yourself if you're going to succeed at a VBAC! You may have to fight for your right to VBAC (and to party ), but it's worth it! Have you discussed the VBAC plan in detail with your doc? If not, you might consider doing so soon, because time and time again mammas get the bait-and-switch for baby being big, going past 40 wks, etc. GL!

My c/s was for breech presentation, so I understand your stress. DO NOT worry about presentation at this point. DO NOT even think about it until 30 weeks. At that point if your baby is not head down, I suggest being proactive, but still not worried. Most babies will settle into a head-down position from 28-35 weeks. At this point only about 50% of babies are head down, and of the head-up babies, 90+% will flip on their own.

I also would not worry. All of mine have been breech at that point. I would probably worry when you get to be about 32 or so weeks. That number is based on my experience, nothing scientific though.

No reason to worry at all at this point. My babies:

DS1: Vertex until spontaneous labour at 38w, 5d, when he flipped into frank breech position.

DD1: Vertex at 38 week appointment. Footling breech at 39 week appointment (sectioned 2 days later, so I don't know if she'd have flipped again or not).

DS2: Vertex for the last 4-5 weeks, at least.

Aaron: Vertex for the last several weeks.

DD2: Warned that she was "not in a good position for a c-section" (ie. transverse) at...35 weeks, I think? Breech at checkup prior to that. Breech again at check up after that...stayed breech for at least one more checkup. Vertex at 39w, 5d, when the section was done.

I'm sure some of it depends on the mom, but three of my five babies have done gymnastics in utero, right up to labour/surgery.

only 65% of babies are vertex by 28 weeks and the number climbs to 95% by 36 weeks. no reason to worry regardless of the position now. Babies do a lot of flipping at this point. Even if the baby was vertex tomorrow he/she could be breech again saturday and back to vertex sunday. Never get worried until around 34 weeks and even then there are a lot of breech babies that will spontaneously convert after 34 weeks

Thank you everyone for your responses. Im not to worried (just a little) Im just a planner and like to be well read for when the time comes. Shoot I started learning about VBACs before DS was out of the hospital and I didnt get pregnant till 5yrs after. Like I said Im a planner-lol.

Has anyone done the spinning babies thing or the chiropractice work or there is one that starts with the mox(something).

Anything I should be reading that could be helpful?

Thanks everyone

I wouldn't worry at this point. You have SOOOO much time for baby turn, and most are not yet head down at this point. Also, the most helpful thing you can probably do is the spinningbabies.com mentioned by the PP.

Just relax, enjoy your pregnancy, and be positive. Plan for the best. Good Luck!

my DS was breech at all our u/ss (including 24 & 32 weeks) and was still breech at 34 weeks when i had my OB appt after 2 weeks of doing the spinning babies stuff.. so i went to a chiropractor (webster tech.) - i went 4 or 5 times in one week and baby turned by 35 weeks .. i felt him turn - it was fairly dramatic and i'm sure he wasn't flipping back and forth .. during the week i was seeing the chiropractor he would turn transverse (ouch!) and back breech.. once he turned head down at 35 weeks he stayed put until he was born at 41 weeks. anyway, i'm planning to see the chiropractor for my entire pregnancy this time, i felt awesome while seeing him at the end of my last pregnancy - all my aches and pains were gone.. DS was in a perfect position during labor/birth .. it was awesome.. i also saw him at 5 days PP and that made a world of difference in my recovery..

It's way too early to worry about whether she is head up or down. You can do it
post #14 of 18
I'd say don't worry, but I know how that is s: Really, it is SO early. My 3rd baby was a c/s for breech and my 4th was breech or transverse up to 36ish weeks. I was SO worried that I was going to not even get to try for a VBAC. I saw an amazing chiropractor who worked really hard to get my pelvic issues corrected and gave me some awesome advice - relax and just know that you are doing everything you can. She told me that she thought my baby was flipping all around because of me being so worried and honestly I think she was right. When I just gave up worrying, he finally went head down and stayed there

I did get my VBAC (HBAC actually) as you can see from my signature! It really can happen!

If you feel *compelled* to do something at this point, I would:
1. Practice good posture. The advice at www.spinningbabies.com is helpful in this regard.
2. Consider seeing a chiropractor every 2-4 weeks just to make sure you're in good alignment. If you have hip pain (I always did around this time during my pregnancies) the chiro can help with this too.

Moxibustion is an accupuncture technique by which you burn mugwort herb next to some spots on your pinky toes. My second baby was breech at 31 weeks and at that point I *did* try moxibustion and accupuncture with a practitioner that my midwife recommended. I have no idea whether it helped or not, but 3 days later my baby flipped to vertex and stayed there until my VBAC birth 10 weeks later. Now, it's entirely likely my baby would have flipped on her own without any help, but having had one breech already I wasn't about to sit on my hands at that point! Like I said, if you get to 30-31 weeks and baby is breech, start getting proactive w/ breech tilts, visualization, swimming (snorkeling is great because you can get really relaxed and baby can settle however is most comfortable - the downside is that this is how my baby flipped to breech in the first place!) etc.

You really need to not worry. The baby moves all around at this point and will have room to do so for several weeks. Sure, have good posture and seating positions. That is always good. But don't worry and fret. It does no good. I mean that with the utmost kindness .

I completely agree. My first was breech, had a c/s. DD was breech at various times until about 29/30 weeks. Then she stayed head down. Wish I could say I had a fantastic VBAC, but I wound up with another c/s, although she was in perfect position! You can do it. Don't stress.
