Can solids in general cause a rash?

I know that allergies can cause eczema, but can solids in general cause a rash if dc isn't allergic to it?

Ds had a rash in his diaper area that was dx'ed as eczema. I went off dairy and stopped giving him solids. He'd eaten a lot of different things at that point. The rash disappeared in a few days (we also used steroid cream 2 days before it disappeared).

We gave him pears yesterday, and there seems to be the slightest bit of a rash starting. (It could just be where his diaper rubbed, though). He had not had pears when the rash started. So either he's allergic to pears AND something else, or it's just because he had solids, and it wouldn't matter what it was, kwim?

I would think that any solids or change in the bowel movement could cause a rash. If the acidity in the pears changed the BM and that sat against his skin for slightly longer than normal, I would think that could in and of itself cause a rash.

Thanks for responding!
There's no rash on his bum- just in front, where urine would touch his skin. We change him as soon as we realize he's wet, though.
I did think that perhaps fruit could change the acidity of his urine enough to irritate his skin, maybe?

I wonder if rice cereal might be a good thing to try next. It seems like he really wants to eat some solids with us!
