Prefolds?

Hi all,
I have several types of diapers and covers I've tried for my dd, but I think I am in love with Thirsties covers and prefolds. My problem is this, she is outgrowing the infant prefolds in rise and is close in weight (circumfrence) but I have seen the next size up and there is no way she will fit into that... she is 29 inches and 12 lbs at 9 months old... any suggestions of some brands that might work??

TIA,

When you saw the next size up, were they new or already washed and shrunk? They will shrink several inches when washed.

some places sell more exact sized prefolds such as GMD and the diaper junction also Little lions sells capri sized. However I started using premium sized prefolds on my DD starting at around 4 months and around 10-12lbs and did just fine thats what was avaiable then.

These were pre shrunk, but even allowing for ~5% shrinkage, they would be huge on her. She almost needs the rise to be 2-3 inches longer but the width to stay the same... I will check GMD and the other one you mentioned.

I've used GMD prefolds since my son was a newborn and have been very happy with them.

When you go up a size, the baby does seem to swim in the new size at first. It doesn't last too long though - they grow so fast!

Okay, looking at the GMD website, I think the green edge would be PERFECT for her, but they have discontinued them!! Anyone know where I could find them??

I love my GMDs. I would say the red edge would most likely work for your LO. My dd has been wearing red edges since around 6 or 7 months and hasn't quite grown out of them at 22 months (she's around 22-23lbs now)

One of the great things about pfs is that sizing dosen't need to be exact for them to work well. If they're too long, just fold one end down a bit and use as normal. I'm doing that right now w/ GMD brown edges for dd.

I'm not worried about the length, I am worried about the width. She can almost wear a preemie diaper and can definately wear a NB diaper (disposable) around her waist. She wears a one for the rise, but it overlaps significantly... I don't mind a little bulk, but I need the prefold to fit inside an xs thirsties cover. Would the red edge work?

I'd look at the capri sized ones from little lambs.

BTW there old green edge were jsut regular infant prefolds sized like the ones you already have. the only other greens are there toddler sized which would be way to big.

What do your measure at that might help some. You might want to also consider getting some standard sized prefolds. BTW I don't even think GMD even lists the measuments for there old green edge anymore.

I've never seen an xs Thirsties, but I doubt the red edge would fit in it. I'm pretty sure red edges would fit in a sm thirsties. I know they fit in small plain Bummis. I also know they fit in a size 1 duo from thirsties that's not snapped down.

I can fit the sized newborn prefolds from GMD and diaper junction in my XS thirsties I can do the smalls from Diaper Junction (would be yellow from GMD) trifolded the wrong way in them as well.

I think I saw the measurements for the green gmd on a used diaper post on another site, I don't think they have them on their website either. I looked at the capri's and they are the same width as the regulars, just shorter. I need narrow, like 10-11 inches shrunk and long, 15-16 inches when shrunk. Maybe if I turned them sideways, then trifolded them... I never thought of that! I have some duo wraps that fit her unsnapped and completely overlapped... I'll try that. Thanks everyone for their advice!!!

yes if trifolding try turning side ways...

If you are just folding so that it fits right into the cover, you might also try some flats and see if you like them - you can fold them up to whatever size you need. Other than a little extra folding, I find they work incredibly similarly to prefolds - just with more options Plus they wash super easy and dry so much faster than prefolds! Two other ideas if the turning sideways thing doesn't work out would be to have someone cut/serge the next size of diapers to the exact size you want... if you don't mind serging down the sides, you could get them to your exact measurements without hunting any down... Tinkle Traps and other WAHMs offer this service...

If it was a discontinued GMD size you need, you could also look for used ones on Diaperswappers.
