My son is 20 months. Around the 7th of this month he started to get a runny nose. I didn't think much of it because he had no cough, and no other symptoms.
Around the 12th he spiked a fever in the middle of the night. I don't know how high it was but he was very hot to the touch. I was at my husbands grandparents house and couldn't find a thermometer and really didn't want to wake them up (my hubby wasn't with me) so we rode it out. It was a bit scary cause he also had a hard time breathing but never enough for an er visit.
We went home and for the next four nights he had a fever around 101 (taken in the armpit). He developed a cough and his lymph nodes swelled. Then I got it. Ug, I started feeling like crap around the 15th. I still have a bit of a cough because it got into my lungs. Also, for one day I had such a swollen throat that it was a little difficult to breath. Even today I am still coughing and have one or two coughing fits during the day that just don't want to stop.
About the 20th he seemed to get over it almost completely, no runny nose, just a little cough occasionally.
Now, on the 26th his fever is back. He was quite restless last night and at about 3am I took his temp and it was 100.8 (again taken in the armpit) and seemed quite uncomfortable. This fever still hasn't gone away. He seems happy enough this morning. He doesn't seem to be in pain and he ate ok at breakfast. His fever doesn't seem to be getting higher, it just doesn't seem to be going away either. Whenever in the past he has had a fever it has broken before morning.
What should I do? I thought this was a regular cold or flu that would run its course but it seems to be returning. His nose is a little runny today as well.
I am thinking about going to the clinic. I read somewhere that if the fever returns than it could be worse than the common cold or flu and that you should go to a doctor and have it checked out.
Does this sound normal for a flu? Could he have gotten another cold or flu already so soon after his last one?
