I'm trying to thin out my collection of childbirth/childrearing/breastfeeding books a bit, because really, I have an obscene amount.
Many of them are very outdated, given to me by my mother who used to be a natural childbirth educator through the 80s. So I'm flipping through a few of them that I bought in 1998 when I was pregnant with my daughter. One of them I noticed was written by a man that lives here in the Boston area (published in 1995). He and his wife had one baby at a hospital, and the next two at home. I was reading a page and noted a quote supporting homebirth from a doctor that he said was a 'homebirth practitioner' - and it's the same doctor that we see in my family practice group of MDs! It's a very unique name, and given that the area he was a homebirth practitioner is the area that he currently practices, I can't imagine it's not the same person.
crazy - I had no idea, but I know who to make our appointments with after this baby is born, heh. It really makes me wonder why he stopped attending homebirths (he is a full on general practitioner doctor) and how the climate in MA has changed that much in the last 15 years since that book was published. It also makes me mad knowing there are doctors out there that support homebirths in MA, but have their hands tied regarding actually practicing.
Anyway. Just thought I would share.
