high HCG levels?

I have my HCG levels back and they seem high. The doctor (not an ob, just an on-base doc - my midwife is out of town) tried to convince me that I ovulated five days sooner than I know I did and that twins would be levels "in the hundreds of thousands". I know that's all out wrong but I'm not sure if I should be thinking about twins or not. I can't seem to get if off my mind.

at 13 dpo: 186
at 16 dpo (three days to the hour later): 679

They seem within the realm of normal to me. They're supposed to double every 2 days (ish) and I believe it's the amount of multiplying and not so much the actual numbers that matter. IDK about "in the hundreds of thousands" though. That's a bit much.

An early ultra sound is always a much more accurate way to tell.
Good luck!

Id say thats a pretty healthy rate to raise. I wouldnt say you should jump right to it being twins, could just be one extremely healthy little one in there... Some singletons (my daughter included) can double daily (186 x 2, 372 x 2, 744) so 679 three days later isnt a huge shock.

I would be worried if it were in the thousands (say 186 to 2,500) but the rate it went up for you does not signal twins! to me.

It could go either way, they are slightly high for a singleton pregnancy, that being said I've seen super high numbers be singletons and normal single numbers be twins. There is also a correlation between levels and the age of the mother, typically older mothers have higher levels *I have no clue why*, if you are in your early twenties I'd say that it's more likely twins than if you are mid thirties plus.
My numbers could have gone either way as well, and did end up being twins. I hope you get the one (or two) babies you're hoping for!

I'm 27 - levels with this one were 10 or 11dpo - 46, 14/15dpo - 564 - and had an u/s and just ine healthy bean! Some ladies just have higher hcg levels - mine were higher with DD too (1555 at 17dpo, 5781 at 20dpo) so I would think you just have a sticky baby.

I'm in my mid-twenties so not older but not super young. I never knew that it made a difference!

I had high HCG levels with both kids, and had severe morning sickness and preeclampsia with both...not sure if there is any correlation though.

I didn't see it suggested yet so go take a look at betabase.com (.net?)

My HCG is always crazy high. 3324 at 16 dpo and 6245 a few hours short of 48 hours later. No one is ever concerned about it (other than me!).

I have heard that high numbers can mean PINK!

My HCG was 11,000 at 18DPO, but there's only one babe in there! I had never heard that high HCG levels could mean a girl...I secretly hope that's true!
