causes of rash?

Hi there-
DS is now 20 months. He never really had diaper rashes as an infant, but now he gets them every once in a while. He's had a bad one for the past couple of days--
It's bright red after he has a bowel movement and he's obviously hurting. He has been teething--could that cause it? He also has had a cough and a stuffy/runny nose and has been irritable.
I'm trying to figure out if it's something he's eating, or if he's a little sick...or if it could be related to teething.
thanks mamas!

sometimes it's hard to tell! My DS gets DR from time to time...the bright red around the bum after BM sounds like something he is eating. The enzymes in certain foods can be irritating to liitle hineys....

Just treat accordingly....I use motherlove's diaper rash/ thrush ointment. That stuff gets rid of anything!

My DD gets a similar rash if she a lot eats acidic foods. Sometimes we just have to say no when she wants to eat more grapes.
