Babywearing And Nursing

I have a two-month old daughter and today is my first day baby-wearing. I'm already loving it. The lovely Breastfeeding Peer Counselors for WIC gave me a ring sling today and she's been in it ever since. My question is for those of you that haven't worn your baby since day one. Did you notice that baby slept more/ate less once you started wearing her? Because she is doing that. I mean she still seems fine, just not eating as much as normal. Or maybe it's something different?

How are you holding her in it?

It can definitely be the case that worn babies are more soothed and therefore sleep more deeply, but you want to make sure her positioning is good in it so that she's not getting tucked chin to chest or having her face covered with fabric -- those might make her sleepier than she should be.

As long as her diapers remain normal, I wouldn't worry about it, just follow the guidelines on positioning here to make sure she's in a good position:

It's so cool that your bf peer counselors gave you a sling! I hope you have many happy babywearing hours ahead of you.

That's what I was wondering. If maybe it just calmed her a lot. I'm wearing it just the way the counselor taught me (I did it numerous times in front of her just to be sure). And I checked the link you gave. It seems like she just really likes the sling.

I think it was great for them to do that too. I was very thankful for it since I wouldn't have been able to buy one for myself. She said she sews them in all different patterns and offers them to all the breastfeeding moms who come to the Breastfeeding group at least once.
