Silly Passover song question

Okay, so IDK how many people watch the show American Dad!, but it is dd's favourite show. On the last episode, one of the characters says that he shouldn't be eating a bagel b/c it is Passover. He then proceeds to sing a song where the lyrics are "Di-di-dianu!" I looked on Yahoo! & all I could find is that it is a Passover song, but what does it mean?? Are there any other lyrics? I am curious b/c dd keeps singing it!

It's a song known as "Dayenu," which means "it would have been enough for us." It's sung at the Passover seder.

Here's a video of several hundred people singing it at a community seder in Israel. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K4XcO4o9MwM.

And not like you asked for it, but here's a shmaltzy recording of it with a very old-fashioned translation of the lyrics, too, thanks to chabad.org. http://www.chabad.org/multimedia/med...ish/Dayenu.htm

Dayeinu -- it would have been enough.

It's about 15 things that G-d did for the Jewish people when He took us out of Egypt, and how appreciative we are that He did even more because it would have been enough if He only did the thing prior. But since He did all these things, we are so grateful.

Thank you both SO MUCH! We are Christian w/ an appreciation of Judaism as our historical religious roots, so I wanted to make sure this wasn't some sort of offensive song (ya never know w/ a show like AD!, which dd is no longer allowed to watch for language reasons). I'm glad it's an upbeat, joyful song!

it's definitely a catchy tune, it's understandable that it would stick with her!
