Homemade wrap question

Would muslin work? I have a ton of tight weave muslin but I wasn't sure if it would be okay to use. Any suggestions for a different fabric? TIA!

I probably wouldn't use it.. you want bottomweight fabric, osnaburg is one that is frequently recommended. If you wanted to make a mei tai, you could definitely use muslin as the outside of the body and back it with canvas.. but as a wrap, it may not be safe. There is some great information about choosing fabric for slings here (section titled "What kind of general-purpose fabric should I use?"), same principle would apply for a wrap: http://www.sleepingbaby.net/jan/Baby/fabric.html

HTH some!

Hi

I'm not sure how muslin would work. But I've used a cotton stretchy fabric(jersey knit like a t-shirt) for a small baby. It's very comfortable but as baby gets heavier it's better to use a woven non-strechy fabric for more support. I use a cotton guaze, it comes in solid colors but if you want to make it fancy you can just cut your big strip of fabric like usual then sew a nice square of fabric onto the middle I cut out an elephant to put on the front of mine. The total cost of my homemade wrap was about 10 bucks and I use it for hours everyday!
