I would love to some advice on learning to nurse hands-free. Having spent a lot of time in the developing world most women nurse hands free while they are up and about doing all sorts of things. I imagine that baby needs to get used to be shuffled around from a pretty early age while nursing, and that your body also needs to get used to lactating while doing other things. It isn't that I am opposed to sitting peacefully and nursing-- I am looking forward to this as well-- but I would love to be able to nurse on a walk, or while cooking, etc. How early do you start after baby is born moving around so they get used to it? What wraps / carriers did you use (I have a ring sling and an ergo with the new infant insert)? Any advice is very welcome!

we always have better results nursing in a ring sling however for hands free If baby will tolerate a laying position in a wrap I hear that is a lot more secure. in a ring sling, without support of a rolled up receiving blanket it is hard for a brand new baby to nurse completely hands free.
have you looked at nursing in carriers on youtube, there are lots of videos to show how its done

I nursed in the Moby Wrap from the time DD was about 8 pounds (though that for us was three months old) she can nurse now from my sling, but it's not a ring sling (never got the hang of those) so it just now gets her close enough without hands to reach my breast. lol (I'm skinny, so that might be the problem.) But the cradle hold in the Moby is still our favorite... we nurse everywhere while doing almost everything. (I won't nurse while cooking because she is grabby, even when nursing and I am too afraid of her getting burnt.) Good luck!
