I got my new Kenmore sewing machine at Christmas, and I've been having so much fun with it! I bought Amy Karol's "Bend the Rules Sewing", and it's been for getting started with the basics.

Here are my finished projects so far:

Drawstring bags made from a thrifted sheet, used for carrying CDs to daycare:

Blankie made for a baby shower (jungle theme), it's flannel from www.kidsfabrics.com on both sides, the "Folk Tale Friends" line:

Gift card bag with crocheted drawstring (should have made it longer):

Flannel pants made from material used to wrap DS's play kitchen:

Dish-drying mat - after:

Next up, a birthday banner and crown for DS, and garbage bags for the car - so much fun!!!

Those are all fantastic! That is great you are having so much fun. I love to sew! The ideas are endless, be prepared to be addicted!

I really love the dish drying mat. I have never thought to make one of those. Great idea.

Good job mama, keep it up!

Those are all so great!!

What type of fabric did you use for the dish drying mat? I think I will have to make one!

Thanks ladies! Doing dishes is just a little more pleasant these days

I just used 100% cotton for the mat - sewed it together "quilt style" I guess, then stitched it to the dish towel - there are more details on my blog post: http://www.ourlittlefamily.ca/2010/0...en-sewing.html

I'm so happy with how it turned out! I was inpired by the bathmat in "Handmade Home" and this blog post: http://seamsoflife.typepad.com/seams...-the-pain.html
