weaning while tandem nursing?

I'm tandem nursing my ds (2 in Feb) and ds(3) and wanting to wean my ds. Has anyone weaned one while continuing to nurse the other? I've had to stop nursing them at the same time because it's just too much for me and makes me feel frustrated and resentful. I'd like to give him alittle time to himself to nurse awhile longer. Sometimes I just want to wean them both but I feel my ds is still too young.

My 3yr old re-weaned while I was nursing her little sister. Er, well, she self-weaned during my pregnancy, unweaned about 2 weeks post partum (when she was 2 1/2) and then I weaned her when she turned 3.

Is your concern about the 3yr old being jealous of the 2yr old? I don't have specific advice for that... the developmental stage of my two are apparently clear enough that the older one hasn't had any issues with wanting to know why she doesn't get milkies anymore but baby sister does. Though we still encounter her having sadness that *she* doesn't.

Have you read "How Weaning Happens"? and maybe also "Sibling Rivalry"? I'd suggest looking into those two resources, and then treating each nursling separately (ie: not weaning the 2yr old because of weaning the 3yr old.)

I've decided to just keep setting different boundaries for their nursing. My ds, 2, wants to nurse less often anyways so I nurse him pretty much on demand still. My dd, 3, was nursing non-stop so we've gradually been cutting back for about a month and now she's nursing before bed, and upon waking unless she gets hurt and needs some to feel better. She's been really good about it and understands that ds is still a baby and that she's a big girl. It's been surprisingly smooth. It's made our nursing times special and I feel much more relaxed about continuing nursing her.
