I need to preface this by saying that my DD does not live with me. Hasn't since she was 4yo. I was young and wasn't able to meet her needs when I divorced.
With that said, DD had Infantile Spasms and Grand Mal seizures as a baby and toddler. She had a great outcome but is still struggling.
She is failing in school. She had learning problems and I believe she is still having seizures.
The problen is her dad and grandmother do not know exactly what her problems are. I have TRIED to tell them she still needs to be seen by her Neuro, that she IS delayed, that she DOES have special needs. I had her in OT, PT, Speech Therapy, at the Neuro every week...DD is where she is because I didn't sweep her issues under the rug!
I talked to Gramma today to try, again, to explain that she NEEDS to see her Neuro. She hasn't been since she was at most 6 yo. (long story there, invoved a lot of lies to me).
I tried to explain, again, that she DOES have delays and needs to be tested more and find out what she needs to help her.
It is like banging my head into a brick wall!!!!!
Thankfully, I live back in town. Gramma is setting up a meeting with the school and I WILL be there. But Gramma is playing the "blame the school" game and is very vocal about it. I can't handle this! Ugh, she went as far as to tell me today that "They want her (DD) in Special Ed classes with all the 'retards'. She's not a 'retard', not that there is anything wrong with being 'retarded'" :Puke
Now, what I have been doing for the last 6 months or so is this...
I have been in contact with DD's social worker through Childrens Medical to address my concerns. I was told that the Pedi needs to send a referral to them to get DD back into her Neuro. Even the Pedi is not doing it at Grammas insistance that nothing is wrong. Oh, except to give DD Ritalin that she doesn't need.
I have been working with DD on her school work. It takes time, but she gets it, but does not test well at all.
I am trying to get into contact with DD's guidance Counciller right now. Esp. after Gramma went and showed her tail earlier.
Please, I need advice on how to get my DD taken care of. Any advice?
