bloody show... does it mean anything?

I just posted in the pregnancy forum, but thought i'd see what you ladies think. I had some light bloody show this morning. i couldn't really tell if there was mucus plug or not. there may have been during the night and for the last week or so, i've seen some slightly mucus-y discharge. but as far as the bloody show... do you think this is a pretty good indication that i'm close? Or could I still go a while yet? I'm a first-timer, 41+2 and at my last appt a week ago, was 1cm, 60% effaced. i've been having contractions fairly frequently since last night (though they didn't keep me up last night) but haven't timed them. mostly just tightening, but some slightly crampy. none painful. I know there are probably no cut and dried answers, but i was just curious if it's likely i'm on my way. any thoughts??

do you mind if i ask you to give TMI?

how much of a bloody show is it? and what color is it? the reason i ask is that i had an internal exam yesterday and she warned me i might have some spotting.

but, i'm not sure how much of what i'm having is spotty or a bloody show.

what i'm having is sort of like what i think of at the end of my period rather than bloody looking. as in it's mucus-y but brown, not read.

Well of course it could mean nothing but for both mine I think I went into labor within a couple days of losing my plug. I know right now I would love to see mine fall out but I'm due today with zero signs.

So it might mean nothing but if it helps you feel better nothing wrong with that! If I saw mine it would give me a little hope that maybe she is thinking about coming out soon!!!!

Bloody show itself doesn't mean much other than that you're anywhere from one day to a couple weeks from giving birth. That and the other signs you're having mean your body is preparing itself, so yes, it could be really soon! I myself am 41 weeks 4 days today, and still waiting, although I'm having all the signs you are and lost mucus plug about a week ago. This is my second, though, and I expected to go late because my first was very "late." (That said, I'm still having a really hard time waiting!!) Since this is your first, it's even less predictable, unfortunately! You sound like you're being really patient though and staying relaxed about it - that's great! Hope things get going for you really soon!

For me, losing my mucous plug means very little... that usually happens a few weeks before labour starts but bloody show means labour will start within hours.

I lost a lot of plug all at once and then con't to lose it during the day. I went into labor within in an hour of the first loss, but I know that isn't the norm.

Catubodua, in answer to your questions:
there's not a whole lot quantity-wise and it only lasted for a couple of wipes. now it's gone and hasn't returned. It was pinkish and then very slightly brownish. I haven't had a cervical check since a week ago, but i definitely had some red spotting after that for about a day (more brown towards the end of the day). I guess now i'm not sure that this constitutes "bloody show" or is just blood-tinged discharge. I'm having quite frequent contractions, though, so i think there's something going on!
