My daughter who is 16 weeks has always woken to nurse during the night, and we've had issues with "severe squirming" in her sleep that keeps me awake, but in general she was a good nighttime baby because she would always just nurse back to sleep, no crying etc (right from day 1). But lately we have had several nights where she wakes up and then stays awake for 1 to 1 1/2 hours. It is KILLING us. It seems to be worse when she goes to sleep early in the evening (like 7 pm)...and least likely to happen when she goes to bed late (like 9 or 9:30 pm)...but I thought early bedtimes were supposed to be a good thing!!??
I have no problem waking up constantly to nurse her (we cosleep)...I did that with my son for over 2 years and even though it was sometimes hard, it is so much better than one of us having to actually get out of bed. If we weren't also co sleeping with my 3 year old, I would probably just keep her in bed even if she cried- (sort of "in arms CIO" I guess- just to see if maybe she cried for just a couple minutes she would go back to sleep), but I don't want to wake up my son. So either me or my husband gets up with her and then she is all smiles and thinks it is party time!
Could this be the 4 month sleep regression? I remember at this age my son went from long streches of sleep to very frequent wakings, but still, I could aways nurse him back to sleep.
Anyone go through this at this age and then have it get better? Should I try to get her on the later bedtime consistently?
She is a catnapper during the day. Avg nap length is 45 mins.
Thank you for any advice!! We always said my son was a terrible sleeper because he has a hard time falling asleep and woke frequently throughout the night, now I realize it is all relative!!

My 4 mo. old has been doing the exact same thing for the past few nights. I thought the earlier bedtime - 9pm instead of 11pm like it's been - would help but now she's up at 4:30am like clockwork and won't go back to sleep until 6. She still sleeps a 7-8 hr stretch most nights, so I should consider myself lucky, but since I just can't myself to go to sleep as early as she does, I only get about 5hrs of sleep.
