Nursing Necklace

I am buying my LO a amber teething necklace and I am tempted to order a amber nursing necklace as well.
I don't know anyone who ever used a nursing necklace - my LO pops on and off the breast a lot, but he is not distracted (yet?) by other things while nursing.
Does anyone have experience with a nursing necklace?
I read that the child will start to associate comfort and mom with the necklace... that's not exactly what I want.
Can they become dependent on such a necklace???

I'd like to know this too.. My ds has taken to yanking what little hair I have left out of my head during nursing. I was thinking a necklace would stop this.

I had one until recently....got it when DS was about a year old, and I liked it a lot. He didn't become dependent on it. I then used it with DD until about a month ago, when she tugged on it and it broke. The thread snapped, even though it was specifically a nursing necklace with a clasp that was supposed to come undone before the thread broke, and she hadn't pulled on it that hard. So I had to pry it out of my DD's hand because all of a sudden all the beads were a choking hazard! I e-mailed the company 3 weeks ago and they never responded. I would like to get another one, but I'm a bit nervous now.

you could buy a nursing necklaces which has a knot before and after each bead. or you could make it yourself.

If you make it with stone (non-glass) beads and a magnetic clasp you should be all set!

True....do you happen to know where to find one? I'm not that confident in my jewelry-making abilities.

The one I had was natural stone, and it was so pretty. The clasp wasn't magnetic, though.

Sorry for the thread hijack!

i my amber nursing necklace from inspired by finn. in addition to it's healing properties, it is well made (knotted between each bead), beautiful and, so far, has lasted 10+ months. my son is 16 months, is very aggressive with it and it's still in great shape i would say even though the twiddling has only been slightly curbed, it is a necessary and well-loved addition to my wardrobe. i would not hesitate to recommend this necklace or this shop.

I made my own and I've liked them for both babes. ds1 didn't become dependant and he likes to play with it sometimes now. it seems to help ds2 to stay focused a little more because he is distractable...

I was wondering about this, too. But can anyone comment on teething/chewing on a nursing necklace? I'd imagine this is a no-no...so how do you wear something around your neck and expect your LO to NOT chew it??

I bought one with my son from mommynecklaces online when he was like 4 months old. We loved it and it was super strong, he flings it around now at 3 and no beads have come off. This is a child who bit amber beads in half off of his teething necklace. I will totally be buying one for my little lady.

So how do you get your child to transition to using the necklace instead? DS2 pulls at my face/lips and insists on sticking his fingers in my mouth as he falls asleep. I would love it if he would use a necklace instead.

It's a seamless transition. My LO finds the necklace more interesting than my mouth. They're colorful, they're shiny, have different shapes, make a little noise when he plays with them. I have 3 of these in the dangling donut style and am looking to buy more if there is another sale. http://www.mommynecklaces.com/ He hasn't bored of them at all and I have had them for 5 or so months.
