How worried would you be? Measle exposure.

I just was notified a child with a confirmed case of measles was at the facility where my ds (who has not had the MMR vaccine) takes a class. The child, I believe, was a sibling of one of the children taking a class.

The facility has three large basketball courts and multiple classes happening at the same. I am not sure if ds was in any contact with infected child.

Any thoughts?

I'd be asking for a playdate , and make sure I had vit A in my cabinet.

It takes an average of 10-12 days from exposure to the first symptom, which is usually fever. If he has a fever in the near future, I'd check his mouth for Koplik spots and keep track of:

  • The order in which the symptoms appear.
  • Which symptoms are concurrent.
  • The progression of the rash.
Fever with Rash viruses:

  • How many days ago did his fever begin?
  • High, low, stayed high, stayed low, etc?
  • When did the rash appear?
  • Was the fever gone when the rash appeared?
  • Where did the rash originate? Head, Torso, Extremities?
  • Where did it move to, from the point of origin? Torso, Extremities?

Since this is about an illness exposure rather than vaccines I'm moving to H&H.

It seems not likely that your son will get measles, but if it were me, I'd finalize my plan for dealing with measles and make sure I had a good supply of everything I want, definitely including high dose vitamin A.
