So I tried to let DS go potty at the mall today....

It was a 20 minute ride there, then we were there for nearly an hour (through a nursing and everything) and he was still dry, so I took him to the bathroom to let him go. It would have been great.

Except DS is sensitive to loud and/or sudden noises.

And the toilets at the mall automatically flush.

Loudly.

The first two flushes (as I waited for him to go) startled him slightly, but he didn't start crying until the third flush. So then I just took him over and let him lay on his unpinned diaper on the counter, and I asked him to go ahead and go in that, and he did.

Keep a post-it note in your purse and put it over the sensor next time!

I am so frustrated by automatic potties that I rarely try to EC in public. Fantastic idea about the post it note!

we were at disney world this summer and the automatic toilets, the echoing and all the flushing going on scared the crap out of dd. If I sat the reg way on the toilet instead of facing the back and didn't move too much that kept mine from going off. After the first day I carried the potette in our back pack and just let her go while we were waiting in ride lines or hanging out in a nice shaded area, etc.

Yeah, carry post-it notes. DD really hates the hand driers and anything automatic like soap and paper towel dispensers.
