Mamas, need your opinions: BG OS 3.0 vs BG AIO organic???

Hi Mamas! Im new to this board, I am usually over on UC or May's DDC. Need some advice and hoping some of you can help me out.

I am expecting #7 5/16 and will be CD'ing. I have been using Bumgenius One size 3.0 pockets with my youngest (1yr old boy) and for the most part I love them. They fit great and hold in everything, and work fabulous overnight. My only issue with them is that they get the stinkies badly! I think it's because of the microfiber. I can get the smell to fade if I put a small squirt of Dawn in my wash and that keeps the smell down for a good month , but it's still just nasty to have to deal with. I am wondering if any of you use the BG AIO organics with good results? I am thinking that with the all natural fibers I wont have the stink issues that I have now, plus the snaps will hold up over time a lot better than the Aplix. They are a bit more pricey, so I really want to do my homework before investing in a dozen or more of them (they are about $275 comapred to $200 for the others).

Any advice/opinions/experiences would be greatly appreciated! TIA

Blessed Be!

since you already like & have the BGOS why don't you just stuff the pockets w/ trifolded prefolds? they absorb just as much or more & are much easier to keep stink free than the microfiber. the BG Org don't have any stay dry layer, so you may end up needing to make fleece liners for them.

Thats a good idea. I have tons of pf's from when ds was a newborn. Gonna try one tonight and see how it works. TY

I use both, and much prefer the organic AIO's. Not so much for stink issues, but b/c I hate stuffing pockets and like snaps over aplix.

I would buy one or two now to try with your 1 yo to see if you like them.

We have some of each, and I definitely prefer the organic AIO's. I'm not a huge fan of Aplix, and I prefer natural fabrics. If you're not wanting to spend a bunch of money to re-stash, I definitely think stuffing the 3.0's with prefolds is a great option.

I've been using BG OS diapers for nearly 3 yrs now - DS1 has 2.0s and DS2 has 3.0s and I've never had issues with stink. I just make sure to spray all poopy diapers w/ bac out before dropping them in the diaper pail. Love'm!!

I use both BGs. Using Calgon in my water has helped with the stinkies. And I occassionally bleach the microfiber inserts. I did have some horrible, funky smell with the organics...I haven't read about too many people having that problem, but the smell was nasty as soon as it was wet. I think in part it was the detergent I had switched to (Rockin Green (sucks)) and buildup. Stripped them twice, and now add ALOT of extra water to my front loader. Stinkies are gone. I really love the BG Organics (despite the brief battle with the smell). They are absorbant, contain the poop explosions, and are so soft with no pilling after 8 months.

I now use the BG pockets as a night diaper...keeps babe nice and dry.

I was just saying to my husband that I always want to reach for the BG AIOs organic first but we keep them for the babysitters/family since they are so easy---they do take a long time to air try but still look new (daughter is 3 months) which the 3.0s work great, but are bulkier and look ickier.

Dawn is not made for the washer and it can even break washers because the suds The buildup of detergent and additives to laundry also cause stink issues.

If you do really want an AIO, there is a 100% cotton lined one called SposoEasy. Plus they are cheaper than bumgenuis- 16.95 each on that site.

I have them and I really like them. Also, trifolding a prefold inside a cover is really not any more work than a pocket diaper. And then you could have cotton and no stink issues.
FWIW, I'm pretty sure the BG organic OS AIO's only have organic cotton as the inner material. I don't think they have hemp at all (my Dream-eze AIO's do, and I love them).

Thanks so much ladies for all the advice!

I did try stuffing one of ds's dipes with a GMD orange (newborn) pf last night, but the absorbency is just not there like it is with the microfiber.(Perhaps with one of the larger sizes I'd have better absorbency, but we only have the orange in my stash as I used those and covers when he was firstborn) I think it will work pretty well for daytime use as I change him often, but during the night I let a "sleeping babe lie" whenever possible. When I use both mf inserts overnight he can go 8-10hrs with no leaks at all.

I really dont want to go back to pf's and covers, I just never got the "love" for them and could never get good leak protection. They worked fine for the first 6-8 wks but after that we needed to up the ante and find a better solution for us.

Cotton Babies has a 3pack of BG AIO's for $70 so I think I will give them a try for DS and if they work well for us buy some more before the new baby girl arrives in May. I definitley prefer snaps to aplix, even tho mine has held up well so far, but having 3 in cloth come May, I need dipes to last as long as they can.

I will also give the bac-out a try and see if that helps with the smellies issue. I had consdiered it b4 but stayed away as I had read somewhere that it was not good for BG's (heck, bleach isnt either, right and I use that. lol) Is it available in stores or do I need to order it online? Ive seen some diaper spray put out by BG as well so maybe thats also worth a try.

Thanks again everyone for your advice!
Blessed Be!

I was thinking more along the lines of a infant or premium prefold. the orange edge don't absorb much. Good luck w/ the aio's

btw I see you are in VT. I am too. I have a ton of infant prefolds if you want to borrow a few to try stuffing w/ those. lmk

I would get the organics. They are extremely absorbent, simple, trim and just great.
