Is it worth it to jump on the Goodmama/Muttaqin bandwagon???

Hi Mamas!
I just posted another question about BG 3.0 OS vs the AIO organics, but also have a question about fitteds so figured I'd put that in a different post.

I am due with #7 5/16 and planning to CD as I have with my others.
I never really liked using prefolds with my last LO even though they are the most economical option. I could just never get enough absorbency regardless of what I did and I changed ds often. So I have been thinking about switching to fitteds this time aound and using pockets at night. I know that Goodmama and Muttaqin are all the rage these days and I have done some researching on them, but would like your opinions if you use/have used, like/love/hate them. They are fairly pricey, (goodmamas more so than muttaqin) and I dont mind paying more for them, but if Im only paying for looks (and Ive already fallen hard for all those cute prints, I confess) and they aren't a good workhorse, I'd rather go with another option. (ive considered Bag Shot Row Bamboo aka: BSRB as well, so if you have any experience with them as well...)

Would you be so knid as to share your advice/opinions/experiences? what you think of them, how they hold up, any issues with laundering, etc? TIA!

Blessed Be!

Wow what a difference in price! $9.00 and $12.95 compared to $26for a GM!

Mama, do you/have you use/d these on your LO personally? Im thinking of maybe getting one of each and trying them out on my 1yo to give them a trial run. Like I said in my other post, I dont mind spending the extra $ on a diaper if its worth it and can be a good workhorse, but with almost 7 LO's and 3 in cloth, anywhere I can save $ is a help. I really like the fact that the GM's and Mutt 3SR are a one size dipe since I have a 1yo, special needs 5yr old and new LO coming in May, all in cloth, but the price does make me think twice.

Thanks for your suggestions!
Blessed Be!

Used GM's are going for $10-15 now, and there are plenty of other one size fitteds out there if that's what you are looking for.

Pay $26 new for exposed snaps and bad customer service? Yeah..not me!

What I did was bought one of each of the OS dipes I wanted to try (there's still a few I want to get). I have an organic GM, a Little Beetles, an SB'ish, a Baby Beehind... I think that's it for OS. I still want to try a BabyKicks.

I will say I really like my GM (so plush, so soft!), but for a little baby, I'd rather go with the Little Beetle or the SB'ish. My little guy is 4 months old and the GM and the BabyBeehind are both on the smallest snap settings on him - if he were any smaller, they'd fall off. The Little Beetle has a snap-down rise, which is really nice when you're trying to fit sized covers over it, but the waist is still on the smallest (overlap) setting. The SB'ish uses a single pin closure on the overlapping wings. It has GREAT elastic - I can get a really good fit on my guy (he had an explosive poo a couple days ago and it caught every drop - after he'd leaked from 3 dipes in the last week). That one would actually be my preference - but the rise is a bit of a problem on a tiny little one.

I have used the little lions fitted ... it is nice. and I have seen the kissaluvs 0 ... more adjustable Either would be great for a newborn. I am doing mostly prefolds + wool covers.

At 11 + pounds, we are moving into fuzzibuns size M (older type fits great, newer type still too big.) We are trying different things for night:home made hemp fitteds with a polyester liner, fuzzibuns, etc.

you will need so many dipes for a new baby, it may make sense to use prefolds or kissaluvs 0 until 10# or so. Fuzzibunx one size might work for you, since you have so many kids in dipes!

my favorite fitteds for my DD are Mutt 3 step rise. We have 18+ They work well for us. Are pretty absorbant, dry fast, fit DD well w/o any gaps, & have no exposed snaps. I bought all of them used in EUC ($15 or less each)& have been using them in a large rotation for a yr & a half & all are holding up well. I have had do stink issues & all elastic is holding up well. I highly recommend them.

I also have 2 goodmamas. I bought them at 50% off b/c I loved the prints. They are very soft & get used a lot. But I don't like them enough to buy more.

I have a doz BSRBs too (bought about 1/2 new & 1/2 used). They are super absorbant & very trim. They say they are snappiable, but I can't get a snappi to stay in them so I pin.

having a really absorbant fitted is important to me since DD wears mostly interlock wool & we babywear a lot. If I did not have an absorbant fitted she'd have compression leaks.

I've gone w/ using mostly one size diapers b/c I like the idea & cost savings of buying one diaper over having to buy 3.

1 new Mutt 3 step rise = $22
1 used Mutt = $10-$15 postage paid

3 kissaluvs = $38.85
& they are not as absorbant as mutts. I had a bunch of kl1s & found that they are not any more absorbant than a snappied prefold

Thanks ladies for all your suggestions! I appreciate it!

Ive BTDT with Kissaluvs and am not a big fan... they'd be soaked with pee in an hour, although they were really good at containing mec. and ebf poo. Im not a big prefold fan either, but they do work in the early days and are cheap, and ive got em in my stash from my last LO. They are my "last resort" for my new LO tho.

i think that with there going to be 3 in dipes come May that a OS works best for me. I have been using BGOS 3.0 with my 2 ds, (age 5 special needs and a 1yr old) along with Blueberry Minky OS and am thinking of giving the Organic AIO'S a try since have heard a lot of good things about them, and I prefer natural materials.

As someone suggested I think im going to buy 1 of each of the varities Im most interested in (GM, Mutt3SR, BSRB, and BG AIO) ad give them a trial run on my 1yr old so I will have a good sense of what to get b4 baby girl arrives this May.

Thanks again for your help!

I love the BSRBs, and because they are snappi-able they have an awesome fit every time. I, like many others, don't like the exposed snaps on the GMs.

I LOVE love love BSRB. I liked mutts too but my son had a giant rise and they didn't fit for long, but his rise is seriously freaky

I don't like GM's because I had bad customer service with them and I don't like exposed snaps. However, I'd totally buy them used.

There are lots of other one size fitteds besides what you listed, Motherease(even have a bamboo version now) Bellabottoms, Luke's Drawers, just to name a few.

I exclusively use mutts for NB fitteds and then goodmamas from about 15 lbs on. Why I love these dipes:

--snap in soaker a must for drying time for me
--fit is awesome

--You can goodmamas for 8-15 dollars in vguc-euc on spots corner on hyena cart now, and mutts for even cheaper.

---I do not like to use mutts once baby is mobile b/c they ride down my baby's butts. So I use them for NB and a few medium front snaps to get me through to goodmama stage. IMO goodmamas are way huge on itty bittys.

****I do like bumgenius bamboo fitteds for nb/s---they dry quick at that size, but after that i dont use them b/c of the drying time.

I agree on crappy CS from goodmama, I have about 14 and bought all of them on spots, so didnt really deal with goodmama CS.

I have tried a ton of fitteds, altho i would like to try BSRB, and none compare to the quality/absorbancy/softness of mutt and goodmama.
