I had the same experience once or twice with my last pregnancy. It's scary, but my doctor said the same thing. In my case, everything turned out okay. Hope you have a great pregnancy.

I have to say I find that advice a bit shocking....was the blood red? Bleeding at 12 weeks isn't typical, which isn't to say that it will become a big problem, but I would think they'd want to perhaps investigate the cause and maybe have you adjust your activity if appropriate. I had a bleeding episode at 8 weeks (just happened one time when I went to the bathroom) and was found to have a subchorionic hemorrhage. My activities were restricted a bit for 3 weeks and then lifted. Unfortunately, I had e much larger second bleed at 15 weeks and it was discovered that the hemorrhage(s) had grown considerably. I was put on complete bed rest and now have a slightly more modified bed rest (I'm 31 weeks).

Of course, I'm not saying that this is your situation, but it was mine and I don't think that I would have fared as well if we hadn't discovered the source of the bleeding and adjusted my lifestyle to better support healing.

I had a bleeding episode around 11 weeks with this pregnancy. It sounds like I had more blood than you; I felt it and went to the bathroom, where it ran out of me into the toilet for about 20 seconds. Of course I freaked out, and the nurse on call (it was a Saturday) said it might be nothing and that I should just call back if it continued. I wasn't happy with that response, and I demanded to be seen. I wasn't able to get in for an ultrasound, but they were able to pick up the baby's heartbeat via doppler, and that calmed my fears. On Monday I called my OB's office, and she had me come in for an ultrasound. I was told (and shown) where the bleed came from; apparently the placenta detached a bit. Luckily that was the only episode I had.

Seeing red blood is scary, so if you're not satisfied with what the nurse or doctor told you, demand to be seen. Sometimes peace of mind is everything.

That is a subchorionic hemorrhage. I have no idea where you are in your pregnancy or if this is old news to you, but you might want to learn a bit more about it (size of bleed, location, will they monitor it to see when it resolves, etc.) Most SCH pregnancies end well, but they do increase risk factors for things like PROM, IUGR, PTL, placenta abruption, etc., and many feel that things like bed rest, pelvic rest, exercise restriction, no lifting/bending, drinking lots of water, etc. (depending on size, location, and progress of bleed resolution) can help achieve the most successful result.

Oh it's always so scary to bleed when you're pregnant.

At this point I would get an ultrasound to find out what's going on in your uterus. They might find a SCH ( and if they don't it doesn't mean it's not there). Sch are really common, they are what most bleeding without loss is caused by. Most of the time they are small and either bleedout or reabsorb or a combo of both by the time you're 20 weeks. With a u/s you'll hopefully be able to find out the size and location. Then in a few weeks you can go back and see what it's progress is.

There's different treatment by different heathcare providers. My ob doesn't do anything like bedrest unless they are large. My mw has a client go on bedrest until the bleeding has stopped for 72 hours. Some studies show bedrest helps some show there's no difference in outcome. The problem is when you have an sch and then bleed and the sch gets larger...most of the time this doesn't happen.

There's different ideas on what type of risks a sch brings. My healthcare team of ob's, peri's, and mw's, think that a controled sch that is stable isn't going to bring about any risks.

I know that. I'm 31 weeks now, it was monitored, and all is well. I was on pelvic rest for about a week, took it easy, and it was determined to be quite minor.

i think now i am getting really upset, i just called, i got an appointment for tomorrow and depending on how things are going at their office tomorrow i mught get an u/s. So i hope its really only blood vessels and not subchorionic hemorrhage.
Thank you all, i still would like to hear about more expiriences

Don't be more upset! Really assuming it is a sch, you just have the #1 finding of a first tri u/s that is considered a 'finding'. They just happen. Nothing can prevent them. Really, they are SO common (hence many ob's not stressing over them).

That the bleeding stopped and wasn't major is GREAT!

Really, don't think of risks. Pregnancy in itself has risks and most bad outcomes had zero warnings. There's no way to control an outcome.

All you can do is listen to your body, take it easy (easy to do when we're all exhausted!), and make choices that bring you peace.

I say this as someone who had the worse outcome happen. I lost my baby, I easily could have lost my uterus. There was no way to know I was at risk for anything. If the mamas I know who have lost babies....none saw it coming. That's The Worse outcome that you're thinking of right now and you don't need to. You're in a great spot (sounds crazy doesn't it!?!) You're aware that there's an issue. Most likely it's a sch and you had a minor bleed. There's all sorts of treatments that can help you...taking it easy, bedrest, pelvic rest, watching what you're lifting. Then you have the oppurtunity to check out the status of the issue. The vast majority of the time the sch goes away. Let's say it doesn't...you might end up on bedrest (little to pay for a baby). The risks mentioned earlier are AFTER you pass 24 weeks (viability) and most are even after 32 weeks (viability with little issues with baby's health). So nearly all the time a woman ends up with a baby that's just fine. I'll type it again. A baby that's just fine. Stop thinking about loosing the baby, there's no reason to think you're at risk for that.

This pregnancy thing is so stressful! Go listen to your baby tomorrow and be excited you might get to see the little one! At 12 weeks it's going to be all wiggly and adorable. Get excited to see it!

@ waitingforkiddos

I am sorry for your loss, i dont even want to imagine what that is like.
I am excited to hopefully see it tomorrow, or just listen to the heartbeat, i havent been to the doc yet with this pregnancy.
I actually do feel confident everything is alright, i didnt freak out a little bit when i saw the blood this morning, hopefully my instincts are right .
It just made me nervous because you read everywhere "go see your doctor" and not "stay at home and dont worry".
And you are right, pregnancy is long and you never know what is going to happen, luckily i have three healthy, very active children, "only" 3 miscarriages but at the least they were very early on, i am thankful for that in a way.

Just wanted to chime in that I had bleeding at 16 weeks ( even a clot ) and it scared me so much. I went to Dr first, with the spotting and the Dr. said it was my cervix. When I passed a clot, I KNEW it was not from the cervix so I went to the ER. They did ultrasounds and blood tests and could not determine why I had bleeding. It went away after 4 days and I have not bled since. I am currently 28 weeks and things seem well.

Could be a SHC (cyst)... or low lying placenta....

for sure see the Dr.

My Dr said around 25% of women experience bleeding in pregnancy after 12 weeks and it is usually fine.

Praying for the best!

so i did see the doctor today, they didnt see anything wrong, may be it was really just blood vessels, the baby was asleep but there was a heartbeat. I guess everything is good.

Thank you all
