Period after Birth?

After I gave birth to my baby boy Nov.10 I bled from the birth for 4 weeks. I had ONE week of no bleeding, and what seemed to be a period came in my 6th week! My husband and I had been having sex without protection after the babe because we believed we were protected by Lactational Amenorrhea. I bled heavy for 4 days, and trailed off for the rest of the week (normal for me). (I thought to myself *Come on! Dont I get a break at all?! I just pushed out a baby!!*)

My cycles pre-pregnancy were always 24 days pretty much exactly. But its now been 39 days and no sign of my period coming again.

Has anyone else experienced something like this? Does this mean that what I experienced before was not really a period?

It's certainly not unheard of to get your period back that early, even as a nursing mom, and early PP periods are often very irregular. However, given the timing, it sounds like you likely experienced what is known as the 6th week bleed. Many nursing moms have an episode of breakthrough bleeding right around 6 weeks PP, that is not a return of menstruation. If you google variations of "six weeks bleed" "6th week bleed" etc., you should be able to find some more information.

Something like that did happen to me with my 2nd baby .. I can't remember the exact week, but it was sometime in month 1 or 2 postpartum, I thought it was my period, was upset, then didn't actually get my period back until 10 months postpartum.

I had something really similar happen to me, but it was around 4.5 weeks pp. I'm now 10 weeks pp and haven't had anymore bleeding, though, so I'm not sure what it was.
