Baby position question

At my last midwife appt (Tues) my midwife said she was 99% sure that baby is head down but she would like me to have a u/s at 36 weeks to be sure. She said she doesn't want a surprise at the birth.
Now my question is, don't some babies change position even during labour?? What good will a u/s really do? I don't really want to do another u/s because I don't think it's necessary, am I right??
Thanks

I'm with you. I don't see why she can't tell my the leopold's maneuver and feeling your belly from the outside. If that doesn't work, why can't she tell from a vaginal exam? I'd look at getting a second opinion from another midwife and her feeling before getting a u/s.

Yes, babies can definitely turn in labor. From head down, and from breech. If your baby is breech now, now's the time to do moxibustion or pelvic tilts. But, you are still early, at 36 weeks, I wouldn't be extremely worried if baby was breech, as you are not even "full term" yet, that is unless you have a history of premature birth or labors earlier than average.

That's just my two cents

I think before 36 weeks my midwife also wasn't totally positive, but by 36 weeks she could tell by feeling. Of course, I don't know what your body is like... it is pretty easy to feel the baby through mine.

But, yeah, my understanding is that even after 36 weeks the baby *can* still change position. I think generally if they're already head down they tend to stay that way, but not always.

I'd probably wait until 36 weeks and see if it isn't obvious how the baby is positioned.

Well, right now I'm only 33+4.
My next appt is with the back up midwife so maybe with a different set of hands and ideas she'll be able to tell.
I am pretty sure baby is head down and has been for a while, it's really hard to walk right now, LOL.
