H1N1 vax rant

Mods - feel free to move, I wasn't sure where to put this

I am not pregnant but we plan on conceiving in April. I saw a new doctor today (resident) who offered the H1N1 vax to me and I declined. After my check up, she had to show my chart to her supervisor. THAT doctor came in and read me the riot act for not accepting the vax and basically told me that I was going to die if I became pregnant without being vaccinated first. I was completely aghast but could only mumble something about not being comfortable with the studies, recalls, etc while she looked at me like I was an idiot (and while I tried not to cry). This happened an hour ago and I am still upset! Has anyone else had this experience? I am tempted not to go there again but I liked the resident a lot.

Wow. I'd be too.

I haven't experienced that, and actually nobody has asked me about H1N1 yet. I did get the vax--because both of my parents are immuno-compromised. I did the nasal vax...and honestly, I ended up getting the flu about 3 weeks later. Whether or not it was swine flu, I have no idea. But I haven't been that sick in years!

Who knows, it may be a way to educate the resident and help her become a more understanding doc. I've met quite a few docs who never met anybody who didn't vax, etc. I remember talking to a doc about why I wanted to delay, etc...and he kind of looked at me like, "Hmmm... .I never thought of that."

I'm SO sorry for you!

Well, I've frankly had it with these DR's and their precious vaccines. Now if anyone gives me grief about it I don't polietly stay mum or smile and nond, I go OFF!

In regard to H1N1 or as I liek to think of it, a big government engineered social experiment aimed to frighten people into mass and mandatory vaccination(maybe not but that's what it seems like to me) I would have simply replied, "No thank you. I would actually like to carry my pregnancy to term and seeing as how this vaccines has been linked to miscarraige and contains ingredients that are known abortion catalysts not to mention mercury, I'll take my chances with this very mild seasonal flu. Now I know you don't believe in the anecdotal evidence from hundreds and thousands of women who miscarried becasue you MD's tend not to believe anything that didn't happen in a lab, but I do believe in the cries from these women who have suffered a great personal loss. Oh, and it's new. And it's not been properly tested especially on the unorn and I'd rather not volunteer my child to be a guinea pig for big pharma and their chemistry sets that churn out vaccines like they're new flavors of gatorade. We take plenty of seasonal precautions that do not casue any potential risk to a fetus, like eating well, taking vitamins, handwashing, and staying away from unnecessary large crowds. Have a nice day.

Sorry. I'm ranting. Feel very strongly about this.

I declined the h1n1 without incident 3 times now. I have been exposed to it at least twice (two teens in two different schools) and think it is reasonible not to get the vax. I got the seasonal though, I've had the flu more than a few times in the last three years. I think the lecture thing is unprofessional, personally.

Hi there, I'm closing this thread per the H1N1 guidelines. Discussion is welcome on the open threads on the vax board. Thank you for your understanding.
