Can any of you give me good finger food ideas for a 1 year old that can't have any dairy, soy wheat or eggs. I am really stuck - I would like to give something that is high protein, but also an easy food to eat on the run since we are out the door early every morning to take ds to school.
Thanks!

Can he eat nuts? Do you have a dehydrator? I recently made a raw oat bar from dates, soaked & dehydrated walnuts, dehydrated bananas, plus some molasses/agave/honey.

I also added soaked & dehydrated pumpkin seeds.

At that age, DS usually had "breastfast" every morning; he nursed right before we got out of bed in the mornings and then didn't really need solid food until later in the day. By the time he needed food in the mornings, he was over 3 and pretty much able to eat anything, was good with utensils, etc.

How about homemade baked goods made with oats and/or whatever grains he's OK with? How about meat sticks, made from ground meat and boiled so they're soft and easy to eat (basically like homemade hot dogs or those jarred meat sticks in the baby food section.)

You could make a big batch of buckwheat waffles on a weekend or when you do have time, and then freeze them and pop them in the toaster in the morning. Or muffins. Fruit smoothie with a straw or in a sippy cup?

Coconut milk in a sippy cup would be great in the morning.

And if you do the waffles that have ingredients your LO can have, you can cut them to be sticks and easy to hold and eat, plain.

-sausage patties, precooked, then reheated in the toaster oven prior to getting out the door? (Maybe broken into smaller bite sized pieces and put in a tupperware bowl, etc? I can't remember what my son could/couldn't eat when he was one...if he can do any other small chunks of meat independently, I might try a wider range of stuff if I was shooting for more protein--chicken, beef, etc...)

-I wanted to second the waffle idea--check out this: http://www.suegregg.com/recipes/brea...erwafflesA.htm Very TF and there are easy ways to make it gluten/dairy/egg free. Add some ground seeds or nuts (that he tolerates) to the pancakes to up the protein? (You could use flours like millet or quinoa blended w/ buckwheat--I believe their protein content is higher...)
ETA: You could make these and freeze them to be reheated in a toaster/toaster oven prior to eating.

-you could make muffins/cookies using mashed beans or lentils as part of the batter to up the protein content. Some folks puree meats and add them to muffin batter as well (maybe a more savory kind of muffin though!)

-I too like the smoothie idea--you could also add greens to the smoothie, and coconut milk--or maybe a seed/nut based milk (again, only if your kiddo tolerates it) for more protein.

HTH!

Thanks for the suggestions,
the waffle recipe sounds really good. Does anyone have a suggestion on how I can get some oats in her? She won't eat oatmeal - but I haven't found a good baked oatmeal bar recipe.
Thanks!

The blender batter waffle/pancake recipe uses oatmeal.

Your dd can't have wheat though...is that because of gluten? Oats have gluten...unless you buy gluten free oats (maybe you do )
