Workbox ?s

So I have spent hours pouring over blogs describing workboxes. I think it might be a good system to get DD (7) working more independently but my question is, is this a largely workbook based program? We use MUS and the student book is BIG. I can’t really imagine tearing out the pages. We also use SSRW which means a workbook, easy reader, game pieces, CD, white board, etc. History Odyssey and NEOE science have so many books…I can't envision this working with our curriculum.

Also, my 7 year old is a late reader so I end up reading to her or with her through almost all subjects. Does the workbox system work better for independent readers? Am I just missing something?

I was in the exact same position as you. My DS,7, is a late reader and I have to sit with him to read him his lessons, intructions, etc.

I tried the Workboxes because I loved the idea, and it was just frustrating for him because he would want to move on and have to wait for me to read him everything anyway. It can use with odd shaped objects, and such, but I decided to wait and try them a gain when he could read more on his own.

Right now I just put on the a little dry/erase board what we are going to cover for the day and he can check them off as we go, but other than some copy work that he can do by himself, I have to do his other work with him.
