New Canada Food Guides

Ok, there is a lot that I don't agree with about the nutrition recommendations, and I won't get into that, but I was awfully pleased and surprised to see kefir prominently recommended as a dairy serving in the Canada Food Guide poster that my kids brought home from school. This pdf should show it.

Something else I thought was cool from a TF point of view is a First Nations and Inuit version of the Canada Food Guide, where the foods are represented in a wheel rather than a rainbow, and traditional choices like fiddleheads and game are included

At least *somebody* is thinking against the norms of the Standard North American Diet over at Health Canada!

OMG! Reading a few msn articles in the past few months (best foods your not eating, etc) and keifer and different types of grains have been a big thing on thier...crazy!

no, no raw dairy. Maybe in the next revision of the guide....

Wow. Interesting. The First Nations and Inuit food guide is much better, imo, even though both leave a lot to be desired.

It's really funny that my initial response to the guides was that they are so limited, when the usual criticism I receive from people irl who don't understand TF at all is that our diet is so limited that they couldn't do it.

Of course even people who've eaten with us still think we are into low fat and vegetarian food... I have noooooo idea why. I sometimes eat bison for breakfast- cooked in copious amounts of butter and pig fat.
