Wipes Solution Recipe w/o Tree Tea or Lavender Oils?

post #1 of 14

Hello! Does anyone have a tried and true homemade wipe solution recipe that doesn't use tree tea or lavendar oils? I've found a few recipes online but wondering if anyone here has a favorite.

Thanks!

* 2 TBSP Baby Wash (choose a natural wash!)
* 2 TBSP Olive Oil
* 2 Cups water

Mix well in a spray bottle or your wipes box. Spritz on wipe before using if in spray bottle. Swish solution around over wipes if using a wipes box.

Thanks! Pretty much what I found online though so many have the oils in them. Now to find a glass spray bottle to buy that doesn't require buying a case...

I just use warm water.

I use a tiny bit of Aveeno baby wash, 2 full droppersful of GSE and distilled water shaken (not stirred, lol) in a peri bottle and sprayed over my flannel wipes. He had had an impossible diaper rash for 5+ weeks and THIS was the recipe that finally cleared it up so I'm hesitant to try anything else now.

I actually use hot water now (cools to warm by the time it's on the bum) but I used to make up a concentrate on half dr bronner and half olive oil. I'd shake it up and add a couple of Tbs to a litre bottle of water (it was an empty Dr bronners). You just have to shake it every time and it was quick and easy to refill because the basic proportions were already there.

I also just use warm water! I got the Prince Lionheart cloth wipes warmer and it's awesome!

What's the purpose of the oils? I'm curious...I'd seen someone post about using Dr. Bronner's and water awhile back and I plan on coming up with some sort of mixture with that....would I need to add oil for some reason?

I've used 2 different home made solutions w/o TTO (we only use TTO now to help keep the yeasties away).

In a peri bottle of water:

few drops of Burt's Bees Baby Bee wash
few drops of Burt's Bees Buttermilk Lotion

OR

a few drops of Dr. Bronner's.

Both worked well, I think the Burt's Bees slightly moreso. It's really just a question of what I get my hands on first when I'm going to mix some up.

I started off using 'recipes' but then got lazy and used a small squirt of Dr. Bronner's and enough water to soak a dozen flannel wipes. I'm not sure what the oil is for but Dr. Bronner's has oil in it so I suppose it does the same thing.

Tea Tree Oil has natural antifungal/antibacterial properties, so it's added usually due to those properties likely as well for the clean scent it provides. Lavendar (someone correct me if I'm wrong) I assume to be added just because of the smell. The thing about lavendar is that it is a known skin irritant (as is cinnamon, peppermint... even though it's practically in every relaxation product). I had planned on using a tea tree oil/soap/olive oil combo, but I know there has been some questions as to the estrogenic and antiandrogenic effects of utilizing lavendar oil and possibly tea tree oil. The study that was done showed that little boys who had it applied started to develop breasts - after halting the usage of the essential oils those effects subsided. The research study itself has come into question (especially the tea tree oil part) and I don't think was done properly, but I figure I can choose to avoid it (plus I actually am probably one of the few who detest the smell of lavendar unless it's in my yard) so I will.

I've decided to use a combination of water, olive oil and baby wash (Clean Kids Natural made by the same company that makes Gabriel Cosmetics).

Actually lavender oil is an antimicrobial as well as tea tree oil, I don't use any baby wash because i'm afraid they will ruin my diapers and I wash them together
