Baby clothes

What size baby clothes did you use in the beginning? Since these are babies 4 & 5 I have lots of 0-3 month stuff but I'm afraid it is going to be too big. All of my other babies were 8-9lbs and the newborn stuff swallowed them for the first few weeks. Did you buy preemie stuff anticipating they'd be smaller? I looked today at a few stores and couldn't find any preemie clothes just newborn size which I guess is a little smaller than the 0-3 month size.

Oh this goes for cloth diapers as well. I have a ton of small and a few newborn covers and prefolds but they all size 8+ lbs. What did you use in the beginning?

My twins aren't here yet...but my DD was 5 lbs 14 oz at birth. For her we used the small long-sleeve t-shirts (like the kimono ones they have at hospitals) instead of onesies at first. Her clothes were NB size. They were bigger, but not terrible, and she grew into them (and then out of them) super fast!

Diapers were Kissaluvs size 0 with NB covers (Bummis seemed to fit best). The diapers themselves seemed to fit well but the covers swallowed her whole at first. It wasn't bad though.

My DS was 7 lbs 1 oz and even he needed some NB stuff in the very beginning. I just don't advise you to buy much of it because truly, they grow out of it in the blink of an eye, probably by the 3rd or 4th time in the dryer!

Mine were 5lbs 8oz and 6lbs 3oz at birth. We did have to buy a few preemie/newborn things but because they were #3 & 4 we had a few friends/family who were willing to purchase them. There was really nothing else we needed so people were looking to buy gifts that we actually needed.

I purchased a few preemie outfits for each baby. Ben used his for all of a few days. Once he regained his birth weight of 7 pounds 6 ounces he was mostly into the 0-3 but he's very stocky and on the petite side (ok, ok, he's short!) Claire was only 6 pounds 6 ounces and she wore preemie for several weeks. We did half sposies and half cloth and at that point only the tiny newborn dipes and my Thirsties XS covers with preemie inserts fit them. They had tinnnnny little booties! I am really glad I bought some smaller clothes for Claire. At first the 0-3 was just huge. She was very long and quickly grew into them though so I'm ALSO glad I didn't buy an entire wardrobe of preemie stuff. I got most of mine at consignment.

mine came at 32wks, came home from the hospital a month later @ ~5lbs each. they wore preemie for a bit, then newborn for maybe a good month and a half. 0-3month was huge on them, and i was glad to have the smaller stuff. hope that helps...

My boys were 6.5lb-ish and they wore 0-3 month (a little big at first) for a long time. They only had a couple of newborn things.

If you carry them until May, lots of onesies or t-shirts should be perfect. You shouldn't have to worry about much else, I wouldn't think.

to Joanna. My twins were born in May and they pretty much lived in onesies and gowns. We are Texans though, so it gets to be "summer" there in early May!

ETA: I just noticed you are Texans as well! LOL! For sure, onesies will be your best friend!

Mine arent here yet, but I did purchase 5 sleepers and 2 gowns each in premie size at a local kids consignment store. I figured if they came small, I wanted to have a few outfits to get me through the first few days instead of having to rely on hubby or family to rush and buy things that fit.

On the diaper side.. I have a few premie dipes.. but mostly XS Prefolds. I figured.. they wont stay in them long, so not to invest the money. PFs can be altered easily to fit by a different fold and a snappi. So for the premie size.. I have 14 pfs, 10 fitteds and 4 covers. Not much I know.. but I did test out a couple of my small fitteds on a friends baby a while back (she was 5lbs 2oz at birth) and they will work at about 6lbs.. bulky and a tiny bit baggy.. but they work! LOL.

My smaller twin was 5lb 1oz and she wore NB clothing for over a month. She still only 9 lb. The bigger twin was 5lb11oz and he grew out of NB clothing in a few weeks. I think it's worth it to have a few NB onesies. We also had a few preemie outfits but they outgrew those in days.

We used cloth diapers--a bunch of different covers in the smallest size available.

no advice about the clothes but green mountain diapers has preemie sized prefolds that could later be used as inserts/doublers.

I haven't read all the replies. My twins came at 38 weeks. Ds was 6 lbs 4 oz and dd was 5 lbs 15 oz. Supposedly she was 1/4" longer than he was (but I don't believe it, lol). At any rate, I had a friend who'd bought me a preemie outfit for each, and ds2 was too big for it. My dd could have used preemie clothes, but by the time we bought her more than that one outfit, she was 2 1/2 weeks old (she was in the hospital for her first 10 days being monitored for a medical condition) and they shrunk too much in the wash for her to wear. So...I dunno if you'll need them or not. I felt like they were a waste of $$$.

Fwiw, my Target had like 1 preemie outfit (along the baby wall) and my dh found a lot of preemie stuff at Wal-Mart. I'm not a huge fan of Wal-mart, but it was the right price
