Literally. Afraid of shadows.
He's a pretty bold kid otherwise, with very few fears. But shadows have suddenly started freaking him out.
It started on an airplane. It was just me and DS traveling together, so I was doing all sorts of things to entertain him. When they turned the lights out for take-off, I made a bunny with one hand and a doggie with the other. He FREEEEEEEEEAKED. OK, so he doesn't like shadow puppets. Fine, we won't do shadow puppets, no big loss since my entire playlist of shadow puppets consists of... a bunny and a doggie. No big loss there.
But now he doesn't even like his own shadow. When the light shines in as the sun is setting we get REALLY strong shadows in our living room. He sees my shadow, or his shadow, or any moving shadow, and he starts crying and burying his face in my whatever-body-part-is-nearest. Poor guy.
I'm not worried, really... I know it'll pass. I've tried a few times to gently show him how shadows work, but he won't look long enough to get the gist of the lesson. But has anyone else had this issue? How long did it take for them to get past it?
His only other irrational fear is of this talking dump truck that MIL sent him. But I agree, it's kind of creepy
