Scared out of my mind! I lost DS (temporarily) - Page 2

(((Momma)))) HOW scary. My 2 year old (3 in May) is good as gold, but my 1 year old (2 in April) gives me a run for the money. We were at the mall a couple-three weeks ago, and she took off running (luckily dh was with me) and wouldn't stop. She has long legs and was on the go!
Not one person stopped her or helped me. They had to have seen me running after her if not yelling her name! Scared me spitless.

**SO** glad this story turned out well!

Oh, so glad everything was okay.

I didn't know how to feel about harnesses before I had DD.

Then, I lost track of her in a Chapters for, like, ten seconds... and the feeling it caused made me a committed user of her pretty unicorn backpack and tether. The deal is: if she is out of the sling in a mall/museum/public place, etc, she wears it.

Trin.

Oh I feel so bad for you. That is always the WORST feeling. That and the feeling that people are judging you for loosing your child.

I was threatened by an off duty police officer once after I lost one of my children in the mall. He threatened to call child services on me. His wife was holding my DD when I found her and he pretty much let me have it right in front of everyone. His wife would not give my child back to me...I physically had to reach across the woman's body to take DD back from her. I thanked them both kindly for finding her and turned around and walked off. It was awful. I hope no one has to feel that way about themselves ever, it makes me angry that I let him scare me like that. Especially since I was already scared enough. Of course, I am glad it was a police officer who found her and not someone else who had bad intentions and I was SO, SO grateful for that.....but at the same time he didn't have to make me feel like s*** either.

to you, it's happened to me. Just teach him how to get help finding you and remember that you did the best you could.

Oh my gosh! I would thinlk that kind of behavior would border on kidnapping, and the officer should have known that. For goodness sake, children run/hide/wander all of the time, even when under the supervision of the mot watchful eyes. Yelling at a scared Momma is not going to magically make things better, it just makes that guy a jerk.

We lost dd in a Ripley's museum once. She was playing with a giant touch screen game on the floor and I was watching her when dh called me over to one side of the room to look at something. When I turned back around she was gone. Dh went forward looking for her and I practically ran back through the museum, screaming her name. She was standing by the ticket booth when I got there, talking to the ticket lady. I'll never forget the look in her eyes when I got to her, she was in a total panic and just so scared. We both had a melt down while I held her. Worst five minutes of my life.
