My son is 12 weeks and last night his first diaper rash came on suddenly. We left for the ped's office for a baby wellness exam, Ped examined him completely, we left and went home.
Once at home I changed his diaper which he had soiled on the drive home from the office. I was near our kitchen so grabbed a paper towel with water to clean his tush.
It was a plain white, no dye paper towel (Target brand) and just tap water.
Normally to cleanse his behind I use plain tap water and cotton washable baby wash clothes. Although I usually blot with a tissue first to absorb some poop.
Occasionally I will use a 7th Generation wipe or an Earth's Best wipe, but usually a baby wash cloth and tap water.
He's never had any reaction to anything I have used. We use cloth diapers as well as sposies (Earths Best).
So two thoughts, I would like to bounce off of all of you-
1) could some bacteria or yeast have transferred onto my son's diaper area from the ped's office, and just caused a fast and furious reaction (within 1/2 an hour if so).
2) could that wet paper towel have done this? He is used to having me blot with dry paper tissues, and never had a reaction.
He's EBF, never reacted to anything in my diet, and even so I haven't had anything new or different than the usual fare.
So thoughts please.
My son's behind has been absolutely blemish free until now. This just makes no sense
