I really love the nicknames for Evelyn, Eve or Evie, but I am not thrilled with Evelyn. I think it is pretty but since I don't have a grandmother or relative with the name, it seems a little old fashioned for my personal tastes. I think Evie is a great nickname for a little girl and then Eve is very beautiful and mature for a woman's name. My friend suggested Evergreen, but I think that is going to far in the earthy direction as it doesnt seem like a name at all to me and I could just see her with tinge of green in her skin, haha! But I do want something more earthy instead of old fashioned. So any ideas would be lovely.

what about just naming her Eve? You can still nickname a young Eve as Evie.

That would be my suggestion as well. If you love Eve/Evie and don't care for Evelyn, then just name her Eve.

well. i can share my name with you

my grandmother's name was synneva, and my parents didn't love it, but kind of came up with my name from the end of her name. my name is spelled "Eva" but pronounced "eh-vah" (like 4-eva, lol). i really like my name....yes, i have had a lifetime of being called "eve-a, ava, etc." but i have also had a life time of "oh, what beautiful name!"

i enjoy having a unique name, and i don't mind correcting people....in fact, i only bother to correct the people i know i will meet again.

you could also do Evette (though she will rarely have her name spelled right without spelling it out... I dont see that becoming a pronunciation problem though)

or heres a whole list of Ev- names that can be shortened to Eve/Evie

The only problem with just Eve is that it sounds Biblical, so although it doesnt make a lot of sense, I think my husband would like the nickname Eve but I am not so sure he would go for it as the main name...if that makes any sense...

most names dealing with Ev- are going to be related to religion though...

I want an Evelyn but dh doesn't. I'm more in love with the nickname Evie which is the name I'd use while having Evelyn on the birth certificate. Gives the kid the option of a more mature name when they are older.

I personally love the name Evelyn itself.

But what I would suggest is just try all three names out when she's little and see which one sticks.

My daughter is Ruth Ann. Sometimes we would call her Ruth, sometimes Ruth Ann, sometimes Ruthie. She's almost four now and has told me she prefers Ruthie so that is what we basically stick with for now.

You'll find when she's little that one name starts to seem more natural or seems to fit her better, or she'll get old enough and express a preference herself. So I think you should just try them all out once she's here.

My moms name is Evelyn so I wanted to name my daughter after her, I spelled it Evalynn so its a little different and when people see it they pronounce it Eva-Lynn (like 4 Eva lol) instead of saying it as one name sounds pretty to me lol

A friend of mine's daughter is Evelyn and I think it's a great name for her! She is often called Evie, but then again so is my son
I think it's a name that really grows on you. Evelyn that is.

A friend of mine named her baby Genevieve and calls her Evie. My baby is named Evelyn, her nickname is Evie (ee-vie, not Eh-vie), but we always call her Peepers. Poor girl isn't going to know what her real name is!

I say go with Eve. It IS a beautiful adult name. Yes, it's biblical, but it reminds me more of forests and beginnings...beautiful evenings, the eve of dawn, that kind of thing. Lovely name.

I love the name Evelyn, go with it!

Ooooh do Genevieve that is soo cute! You can say Evie for that one and pronounced with the short e sound for sure!

Our DD's name is Evelyn, so I am slightly biased But we evolved from a number iterations of her name when she was a babe. Now, (this will sound strange, but hey) when I refer to her in writing, it's Eve for short, but we call her Evie (ee-vie). (and full name when she is being naughty and we are trying to get her attention )

My DD's name is Evelyn, too... our family is bilingual, so half of the family calls her EveLEEN and the other half calls her some form of Eh-vie or Eevie. I personally love the name (obviously!), but if you're not a huge fan, I say go with Eve. It's a beautiful name, still has nicknames, is actually less "trendy" now that Evelyn is climbing the charts, and I think is a bit more "earthy" than Evelyn (especially picturing a spring or summer day when the sun has just crept down... beautiful). Evelyn itself I think means acorn, which is earthy but doesn't give that same mental picture.

Eva is also an option you may want to consider.

if you don't like evelyn don't use it. Eve can surely stand on its own.

We have a Gwendolyn (Gwen) and a Vivian (Viv) and I was convinced that our 3rd would by Evelyn or Lillian. Instead we ended up with a Gabriel.

I love the name Evelyn and it we would have had one I am sure we would have called her Eve.
